Top Players On Defense

OLB Brian Burns

Burns is a force and a player you must game plan around. He has been one of the more underrated players at his position. He plays the the game with a relentless motor, using his speed and athleticism as well as an understanding of the game and how to use technique to beat offensive tackles. He has seven sacks and 48 tackles for the year.

DL Derrick Brown

Brown is as stout as they come on the defensive line. Adept at stopping the run and rushing the passer, he can collapse a pocket in an instant. He can control the line of scrimmage and has 96 tackles and a sack on the season.

LB Frankie Luvu

Luvu had his coming out party last season notching a career high 111 tackles. He's picked up right where he left off this season with a team-leading 119 tackles and 5.5 sacks. A versatile piece for the Panthers' defense he can make a difference in all three phases of run support, pass rush, and coverage and will need to be on the Bucs' radar at all times.

Top Players On Offense

WR Adam Thielen

Thielen has been the best player on offense for the Panthers by a wide margin. The veteran wide receiver knows the nuances of the game which lets him find space to make plays. He has 101 receptions for 1,002 yards and four touchdowns doing most of his damage in the slot.

OT Taylor Moton

On a disastrous offensive line, Moton has been anything but spectacular. But he has been steady allowing just one sack on 34 pressures. His pass blocking has been superb but a lackluster unit as a whole has been one of the Panthers' downfalls this season.

QB Bryce Young

After a rocky start, Young has started to settle in at quarterback for the Panthers. The lack of talent around him has contributed to the team's struggle but the talent is there for the number one overall draft pick. He has 2,783 yards passing, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions and has been sacked a whopping 59 times.

What's New In 2023

The Panthers made a bold move before the draft. Moving from the sixth pick to the first overall selection saw them surrender multiple first-rounders and receiver D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears. With the pick, they selected Alabama quarterback Bryce Young to be the new face of the franchise. They brought in veteran head Coach Frank Reich to lead the team who has since been fired and replaced with special teams coach Chris Tabor. To boost the offense they signed veterans Adam Thielen, D.J. Chark, and Hayden Hurst as well as Miles Sanders.

Looking Back at 2022

Last season didn't go too well for the Panthers who ended up with a losing record and a coaching change mid-season. They started three different quarterbacks and traded valuable assets to bring in current Bucs QB Baker Mayfield a year after trading for Sam Darnold. They also traded All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers in a mess of a season for Carolina.

NFC South Title on the line

It's win or go home for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what is essentially a playoff game against the Carolina Panthers. With the NFC South Title on the line, the Bucs can capture their third consecutive division crown and fourth straight trip to the playoffs with a win over the Panthers on Sunday. The last time these two teams played was in Week 13 and it was much closer than the Buccaneers would've liked. They control their own destiny and a win means hats and t-shirts and a home playoff game as the fourth seed.

Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction - For Buccaneers to win

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to win the match to secure the division title and qualification for the playoffs of the 2023/2024 NFL season. The Carolina Panthers no longer have any objectives for the current season, they have already secured last place overall in the tournament and are playing today just to make up ground.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Current Performance

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a very irregular season, but in a division with a very low cut-off, the team has a great chance of winning the title and qualifying for the playoffs in the 2023/2024 NFL season. The team is in contention for the division title and a playoff spot with the New Orleans Saints, who need to win their match and hope for a Buccaneers defeat to secure the title.

Carolina Panthers - Current Performance

After a terrible season, the Carolina Panthers no longer have any goals in the 2023/2024 NFL season and are already focusing on the coming years. The team has already secured the top spot in the 2024 draft, but to do so, the Panthers had to have the worst overall record in the NFL. The team has had 14 defeats and just two wins to date.

On the road, the Carolina Panthers' campaign hasn't been so bad, with two wins and three defeats, the victories coming against the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. In their last ten games, the Panthers have won two and lost eight.

Panthers' strengths and weaknesses

The Carolina Panthers were very aggressive in the draft to move up to the 1st pick and select QB Bryce Young. He's been having a pretty bad season so far and needs to improve a lot to pay off what the Panthers traded to acquire him in the draft. The supporting cast, such as the receivers, has some interesting names, but none that are eye-catching, as does the running game and the offensive line, which will be sorely tested.

The 3-4 defense has good players and could be a good unit again in 2023. DE Brian Burns needs to stay healthy, while CJ Henderson and Donte Jackson make an excellent CB duo on the outside.

Buccaneers' strengths and weaknesses

After a glittering season, the team must return to the doldrums with an expensive and bad team. QB Baker Mayfield shouldn't make the team as competitive, but he can't complain about the support of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Cade Otton, who are good players. The running game is in the hands of RB Rachaad White, who was a reserve and now takes full ownership of the team's backfield.

The defense has some great names, but in my opinion they have problems in the secondary where they'll have a lot of trouble in this game.  The front seven is very good with a mix of young and experienced players. The secondary has good CBs, but the safeties are the unit's weak point.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs had four wins in December and Baker Mayfield was finally getting respect in a season worthy of comeback player of the year. But when it came time to shut the door on their rivals and take the NFC South, they were thrashed at home by the New Orleans Saints, an unstable and disappointing team.

Luckily for the Bucs, their last game of the season is against the Carolina Panthers, whose players are thinking more about Cancun on vacation than this Sunday's game. This will be the third division title in a row if confirmed.

Mayfield can then return to the playoffs after a 2020 campaign with the Browns and improve on his already career-best numbers: 3,907 yards and 28 TDs, with 11 TDs and three interceptions in the last five games.

Carolina Panthers

That the Panthers' season is over hasn't been news since basically October. Since then, the team has dragged its feet, fired its coach, the owner has not only made decisions that are difficult to explain, but he even threw booze on the Jaguars fans at the last game... and all this to avoid getting a pick in next year's Draft.

The most important thing now is to regain the confidence of Bryce Young, who continues to have very bad games but the dysfunction around him must be taken into account. The offensive line doesn't block, apart from Adam Thielen the receiving corps is weak and he doesn't have a head coach.

Young has suffered 62 sacks this season, his third-worst record, and should suffer more from the Bucs' pass rush. Carolina fans wouldn't want to see this season again even if it were painted gold.

TIME AND PLACE!

The match between the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take place in the NFL on Sunday, January 7th at 1pm ET.

The Buccaneers (8-8), despite being beaten 23-13 by the Saints last week, are still top of the NFC South and if they win they're guaranteed a place in the playoffs. The Panthers, meanwhile, with two wins in 16 games, are only guaranteed the worst record in the NFL and can't even take the first pick in the Draft as a consolation, since it was traded to the Bears.

There's no doubt about it: although the Bucs had a terrible game last week and the Panthers have shown some progress, the Florida team is playing for the playoffs and the division title and Baker Mayfield, even though a blow to the ribs in the last game casts some doubt on his condition, will shine this Sunday.
