The Buffalo Bills lost in a heartbreaking first preaseason game against the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 19-18.

Stadium News

The Buffalo Bills' first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts began on the heels of big news for the team and fans. New Era and the Buffalo Bills announced a deal that gives the sports cap company naming rights to the team's stadium.

An official announcement is expected next week. The stadium has been known as Ralph Wilson Stadium in honor of the team's long time owner since the late 1990s.

First Quarter

Aside from the new stadium name the other news before the game was the weather. As the first quarter began, it started to pour and the wind was blowing so the opening kickoff had to be held on the tee. Despite the weather, the Bills managed to make major headway against the Colts.

Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor fresh off the signing of his contract extension was in for the first few series for the Bills as was starting running back LeSean McCoy. McCoy got nine yards in two carries in his half quarter on the field.

The first score of the game came half way through the first when Bills' tight end Chris Gragg blocked a Pat McAfee punt into the end zone resulting in a safety. The Bills then drove down the field starting with a Reggie Bush (making his first appearance in a game for the Bills) 17-yard return. A 19-yard touchdown pass from E.J. Manuel to Chris Gragg capped off the 69-yard drive. Dan Carpenter added an extra point giving the Bills a 9 – 0 lead.

Second Quarter

Most of the second quarter was uneventful until just after the two minute warning. Colts' quarterback Scott Tolzien threw a screen pass to Jordan Todman leading to a 42-yard touchdown. The Bills' Kevin Seymour intercepted Tolzien's two-point conversion pass attempt. The score was 6 – 9 late in the second.

The Colts got the ball back again before the end of the half. During one of the Colts' plays Bills' outside linebacker IK Enemkpali went down and had to be carted off the field thinning out the Bills' defensive line even future. Shortly after his injury, Adam Vinatieri's field goal made it 9 – 9 at the half.

Third Quarter

The Bills got the ball to start the third quarter. The first drive was 61 yards, 9 plays and ended with a Dan Carpenter 37 yard field goal. The Bills then lead 9 – 12.

Fourth Quarter

Cardale Jones lead the Bills at quarterback in the fourth quarter with a couple 14-yard passes one to Walt Powell the other to Nick O'Leary. Running back James Wilder, Jr. had a few short runs getting the Bills within field goal range. Dan Carpenter failed to connect on a 53-yard field goal keeping the score 9 – 12.

The Colts then went ahead when Stephen Morris threw a pass to Chester Rodgers and the Bills' Sterling Moore missed a tackle allowing Rodgers to run it in for a 57-yard touchdown making it 16 – 12.

The Bills had a chance to keep the drive alive late in the game. With a little more than 2 minutes left Cardale Jones failed to connect with Kain Colter on fourth down.

The Colts got the ball back and the next drive ended with another Adam Vinatieri field goal. The 38-yarder made it 19 – 12 Indianapolis.

Cardale Jones had about a minute to lead the Bills 83 yards down the field. With time expiring Jones threw a four yard pass to Jarrett Boykin for the touchdown making it 19 – 18. The Bills went for two for the win but couldn't get it in the end zone.
