The second period started much like the first in this Game 7 between the two southern California rivals. Anze Kopitar put the Kings up 4-0 just after the two minute mark of the second. John Gibson's night ended early, as Ducks coach Bruce Bodreau send Jonas Hiller in as relief for the young Gibson. The ducks responded to the change in net, finding a new level to their play. Anaheim generated more scoring opportunites and took some of the game's momentum from Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick was much busier in the Los Angeles net in the second, forced to make some huge saves to keep the ducks off the board. Jakob Silfverberg had a glorious scoring chance directly in fron of Quick's crease, but Quick made a huge stop. Things seemed to be turning the Duck's way, until Kyle Palmeiri was called for goaltender interference at the 7:16 mark of the second. The Kings powerplay moved the puck around masterfully, eventually setting up Gaborik for his second tally of the game, making it a 5-0 Kings lead. Anaheim took over control of the second period after allowing the powerplay goal. The Ducks invaded the Los Angeles zone, putting lots of shots on Quick. Palmeiri made up for his costly minor infraction, Beating Quick low to the glove side to make it 5-1 Los Angeles With just under three minutes remaining in the period. The Ducks head to the third period with some momentum after the goal and ensuing chances. Can the Kings hold off the upcoming onslaught, or will the Ducks devise a comeback of their own in this Game 7? Twenty more minutes of playoff hockey will answer this question.
