The New York Rangers have been manhandled by the Tampa Bay Lightning, tonight losing 6-2. The Lighting were the better team tonight from the get go and the Rangers just did not show up to play at all. With the win the Lightning tie up the series 1-1 going to Tampa. Henrik Lundqvist is now 5-13 in game 2s in his career.

With 14:28 left in the first period and the Rangers on the 5-3 man advantage, Marty St.Louis fell down letting Tyler Johnson free on a breakaway, while St.Louis did catch up with him it didn’t make a difference and it was ruled that the puck did cross the goal line before the net was dislodged assisted by Alex Kilorn. After that with 11:11 left and the Rangers on the power play Dan Boyle took a shot from the point that was deflected by Martin St.Louis to Chris Kreider beat Ben Bishop to tie it up 1-1 assisted by Marty St.Louis and Dan Boyle. With 8:45 left in the first the defense for the Rangers did not play well and Henrik missed a puck he would usually to save, when Tyler Johnson scored his second of the night and Tampa’s first power play goal assisted by Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. Tampa took a two goal lead, 8:17 into the 2nd when Tyler Johnson scored to finish off the hat trick, assisted by Ondrej Palat and Nikita Krucheov. That was really the end of the game, for the Rangers as it was pretty much all Lightning after that and the kept making a bad thing worse for the Rangers.  The Rangers would get one more on the night, on the power play again, after a save by Ben Bishop, Derek Stepan took it behind the net, and passed it to the front of the net but it went off Victor Headman’s backside and went in to make it a one goal game again. The third period the Lightning beat up on the Rangers, scoring 3 goals, 2 on the power play. At 16:52, Henrik Lundqvist was out of position and Alex Killorn scored on the open net assisted by Valterri Flippula and Victor Headman. At 13:32 of the third period, Steven Stamkos tipped in a shot by Braydon Coburn and Nikita Kucherov. The punishment would continue for the Rangers with just above 2 minutes left the Lightning again on the power play scored to take a 6-2 lead, the goal was scored by Alex Killorn, assisted by Jason Garrison and Valterri Flippula. The Lightning finished 3/6 on the power play while the Rangers were 2/5 on the power play.

This series goes back to Tampa for Game 3 on Wednesday night, where the Rangers look to get back on the right track and the Lightning look to continue this good mojo.
