Wednesday night was the NHL award show, the yearly award show hosted by NHL. Giving out awards to the players that won them due to the success the player had this season.  One award that was given out was the Frank J Selke Award which is given to the best defensive forward this past season. Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron won the award. He beat out players like Jonathan Toews, Anze Kopitar, David Backes, and Pavel Datsyk. This is the second year in the row Bergeron has won this award and the third time in five seasons.

Bergeron was a bright spot in a down year for Boston as he recorded 23 goals, 32 assists, with a plus minus of minus 2. Boston has high expectations this past season of making the playoffs as a top seed. Things did not go well for them they had a tight grip on the eighth and final seed. During  last few games of the season they lost the eighth seed and missed out on the playoffs.

There are a lot of reasons of why Bergeron is a great two way player, he has a great shot, he is a good faceoff taker, and also he is a good penalty killer. His best assist is his defensive play on the ice, which is the reason why he has won the award so many times in the last five seasons. You can put him as your first line center and as your first line power play center and he will produce a lot for your team.

The league made the right choice in giving Bergeron the Selke trophy. To this author he is the most deserving person for the award. Expect Bergeron and the Bruins to have a bounce back 2015-16 season after a setback season 2014-15 season. With the right group of people in Boston they will most likely be back in the playoffs.
