San Jose Sharks Head Coach, Peter DeBoer, has finally come to his senses and will be sitting Mike Brown in tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche. It is long overdue. Brown is not only the worst player in the Sharks' organization but one of the worst players in the league. He is also signed to a ridiculous amount of money for a goon who is just supposed to fight and attempt to play hockey. Brown is a $1.2 million cap hit when he should be more like the league minimum of $575,000. Even giving him that would be a stretch, but it would be much easier to swallow.

Brown deserves to be in the AHL, and he probably would be a decent AHL player. That's all he could be though and nothing more. The Sharks have kept players like Barclay Goodrow and Ryan Carpenter in the minors, rather than bringing one of them up and waiving Brown goodbye. It's good to see DeBoer finally noticed what all Sharks fans have noticed since Brown's arrival. Brown works hard, but he takes stupid penalties at terrible times that end up costing the team wins. The perfect example is the Sharks overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night.

The Sharks were up 1-0 in the third period when Brown took a roughing penalty on Drew Doughty. No one is sure what Brown was trying to accomplish, in what ended up being his last shift of the game, but it cost the Sharks a lead. The Kings scored on the ensuing powerplay and of course, it was Doughty who punctuated the horrific play by Brown. Do the Sharks win without Brown taking that penalty? Fans would like to think so, and anyone watching the game knows that the momentum teetered in the Kings' favor after the powerplay goal. Thanks, Mike.

Dainius Zubrus comes back from the injured reserve tonight to take Brown's spot in the lineup. Now that Brown is out of the lineup, this should be the best lineup that the Sharks have iced all season. The Sharks take on the Avs tonight at 10:00 PM EST, and it will be broadcasted on NBCSN. It's the Sharks last game before their week-long layoff due to the All-Star break.
