Trevor Bayne in the Advocare #6 car, a full-time Nationwide Series driver, went to the top of the board in qualifying Saturday night with ten seconds left on the clock after Sprint Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski had gone faster just 30 seconds earlier.

Bayne was top of the board from the first minute of the second and final session. He was the first driver out and stayed there until Keselowski made his second run and went top only for Bayne to go back to the point with a storming time of 23.558 seconds around the Iowa Speedway.

There were only two knockout qualifying rounds around this small track and the first 30 minute round started with Landon Cassill in the #01 car posting a time of 24.134 seconds. He was atop the leaderboard for the first ten minutes until the big hitters went on track.

With ten minutes gone, the top five would have been a shock to most people. They were Cassill, Hal Martin, Kevin Swindell, Eric McClure, and Jeffrey Earnhardt with Derrick Cope on the bubble in 12th. Chase Pistone in the #31 Rockstar Energy car went fastest a minute later and Josh Berry, who is making his debut for Junior Motorsports in the #5 car, went 2nd on his first lap on track. However, minutes later, Keselowski was top with his second lap.

Keselowski's qualifying record is unbelievable in the Nationwide Series. He has had five straight front row starts and two consecutive Coors Light Pole Awards in the series.

With 13 minutes left, Brian Scott went to the top of the board with a 23.64 second lap and Bayne jumped into 2nd place on his first run out. Rookie Chase Elliott went into 3rd place on the speed chart with his first run out on track. Ten minutes were left in the session and the top five looked very different from earlier in the round. The top five were Scott, Bayne, Elliott, Sadler, and Smith, with Dakoda Armstrong on the bubble in 12th and Cassill just outside in 13th.

Last week's race winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Ty Dillon, was struggling with a tight car and could only go into 14th on his second run. The top five was the same with only five minutes left in round one, but Berry was on the bubble in 12th and C. Buescher in the Fastenal sponsored #60 was just outside in 13th. However, a minute later C. Buescher was into the top 12 in 7th to knockout Berry and out Brendan Gaughan in the #62 on the bubble.

Berry was back into the top 12 with two minutes left as he went 9th fastest, which meant Gaughan was out of the top 12 and Sam Hornish Jr was the latest driver to be on the cusp of falling out of the top 12.

As the clock expired on the first round only a few drivers had jumped into the top 12, including Hornish Jr who went to 10th on his second run out on track. The top 12 who advanced to the second and final round were Scott, with a 23.649 and 133.198 MPH lap, Bayne, Elliott, Sadler, Smith, McDowell, C.Buescher, Keselowski, Berry, Hornish Jr, Reed, and Pistone. There was only 0.128 seconds between Scott in 1st and Pistone in 12th.

Some big names missed out on round two including Gaughan in 13th, Dillon in 15th, J.Buescher in 18th, and Ryan Sieg in 20th.

Gaughan told ESPN reporters, "We were really fast in practice yesterday, so I'm sure we will be fine in the race tonight and we have less laps on out tires which will help."

The second and final round was only ten minutes in length and started with eventual pole winner Bayne going out on track with a minute gone and posting a 23.579 second lap time. At the halfway point the top five were Bayne, Smith, Keselowski, Scott, and McDowell with some drivers still to make a run in this final round.

On his first run on track, Berry in the #5 car got loose off turn two and went into 10th with a 24.038 second lap. With three minutes left, Pistone, who was the last driver to make a run, went into 12th with a 24.138 second lap.

With only a minute remaining, Keselowski went back onto the track and went to the top of the board with a 23.577 second lap, which looked to be enough to take him to top spot. However, the only other driver back on track was Bayne who posted a 23.558 second lap and won the Coors Light Pole Award for Saturday night's race at Iowa Speedway, which begins at 8 PM ET.
