The ninth round of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross campaign took place inside the Georgia Dome - which also played host to the eighth round last weekend.

The track in Atlanta for the ninth round was one of the best of the year so far; very diverse and quite different than it was inside the Georgia Dome a week ago, it featured red clay, difficult sand sections, and another over-under-bridge.

After the first round at Atlanta a week ago, it was expected that fantastic racing would pick up right where it left off on the final day of February (read the recap of last weekend's racing via the link above).

The stars of the 250 East group lined up at the gate for their third main event of 2015. Marvin Musquin, Justin Bogle, and Jeremy Martin, all favorites to win the 250 East championship, were set to battle it out much like they did last weekend inside the very same stadium - although on a much different track.

Musquin got a great start, much like he did at Arlington two weeks ago, earning the holeshot and opening a large gap of a few seconds within the first few laps. Behind him, in second and third, were Arnaud Tonus and James Decotis, but Jeremy Martin and Justin Bogle were not far behind, in fourth and fifth, just out of podium-finishing positions.

By the fourth lap, Martin on his Yamalube Yamaha had gotten by Decotis for third, and it wasn't long until the 2014 250 East champion of Justin Bogle did the same.

Musquin was still running an incredible pace at the front, so, upon moving into second, Jeremy Martin was still four seconds behind the KTM rider.

Joey Savatgy of Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki was a ways behind third place of Justin Bogle; Savatgy raced hard and throughout the 15 laps despite an injured hand.

Decotis managed to stick in fifth position after being kicked out of podium contention early in the race, but Tonus lost sixth to Martin Davalos of Rockstar Husqvarna on the final lap and finished seventh.

Musquin took the win on his Red Bull KTM, his second of the year, strengthening his points lead over Jeremy Martin, Justin Bogle, Joey Savatgy, and Martin Davalos.

After the checkered flag flew and podium interviews finished, it was time for the 450 Supercross class to take to the track inside the Georgia Dome for their 20 lap main event.

Ryan Dungey was third on the first lap, but found himself in the lead on the sixth lap.

Eli Tomac came out of the first corner in fourth, but on the second lap he took third from TwoTwo Motorsport's Chad Reed, last weekend's winner, after Reed lost control and was briefly off track. Tomac took his Honda to second before the 20 laps were up.

Trey Canard began his race in sixth position, passed Reed after his mistake that saw him exit the track, then passed Broc Tickle, then Weston Peick who began the race in the lead after a fantastic start, before finally battling with Eli Tomac for second, settling for third. After two wins earlier this season and consistent top-five finishes, Canard is a rider to keep an eye on this year.

As a sidenote, the weekend prior to last weekend's first round in Atlanta, at the first race of the east-segment of the series and the first race for the 250 East group, a KTM-dominated round took place. That Saturday, inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, both Marvin Musquin and Ryan Dungey of KTM came out as the winners of the two main events - both with incredible performances all evening long. KTM has two fantastic riders in Musquin and Dungey, who have shown that they have the power to go out and win whenever needed. The two are, as it stands now, in the best positions in their class to win the championships.

The next round of Supercross racing will take place on the evening of March 7, on the infield of the Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida, for the round of Supercross that can be compared to their Super Bowl or Indianapolis 500.
