One of the XFinity Series' hottest prospects Erik Jones dominated the three rounds of qualifying for tonight's race at Texas Motor Speedway. The rookie topped the charts in all three rounds and posted a lap time of 29.163 seconds on four lap old tyres to take the Coors Light Pole Award. Brad Keselowski,, Austin Dillon, Daniel Suarez, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Regan Smith made up the rest of the front three rows for tonight's race.

It looked like Brad Keselowski might have stolen the pole from Erik Jones in round three, but when Jones came across the line he was 0.058 quicker than the Cup Series regular.

The first of three rounds in XFinity Series qualifying were 20 minutes in length and started with a number of drivers lead by Landon Cassill in the #01 first on track. Out of the first group of drivers rookie Darrell Wallace Jr went top of the board early on with a 29.440 second lap time. But it was short lived as Brad Keselowski, running double duty this weekend, went top with a 29.380 after four minutes of the first round. The name at the top of the board changed hands twice over the next minute as Regan Smith first went quickest in the but was beaten by another rookie Erik Jones who posted a 20.127 second lap.

At the half way point of the round Erik Jones, Regan Smith, Brad Keselowski, Darrell Wallace Jr and Dale Earnhardt Jr were the top five as Dakoda Armstrong was on the bubble in 24th.

Wallace Jr told FoxSports 1 during round 1: "We were really on the free side but it's just exciting to know that this car has some good speed in it."

With just three minutes to go, after a quiet five minutes on track, Brennan Poole went to 19th to put Elliott Sadler on the bubble and put Dakoda Armstrong outside the top 24.

But just one minute later Dakoda Armstrong went into 19th to put Elliott Sadler  in 25th and place birthday boy Mike Bliss on the bubble.

There was drama as time expired with Elliott Sadler, Mike Bliss and Blake Koch all jumping inside the top 24 to advance to round two.

Ryan Sieg told FoxSports 1 after round one of qualifying: "We made up some speed in that final practice yesterday which carried over to qualifying today which was positive for us."

Round two began with another mad rush to be the first put onto the track but Denny Hamlin in the #54 had that honour. When the first group of cars had passed the stripe it was once again rookie Erik Jones #20 who topped the chart with a 29.213 second lap time. Another rookie was the fastest of the second group of cars, Daniel Suarez in the #19 who went to 3rd after his lap on track. As the clock passed the half way point in round two Erik Jones #54, Brad Keselowski #22, Daniel Suarez #19, Brian Scott #2 and Austin Dillon #33 were the top five. Ross Chastain in the #4 made his first run with three to go but could only get to #29th on the chart as Ryan Sieg #39 made a second run but could only get to 18th. It was go time in the final minute for the big name drivers outside the top 12, including XFinity Series points leader Ty Dillon #3, but he couldn't improve his position of 16th.

Shortly after time expired on round two and Brendan Gaughan #62 was the final driver in 12th to advance to round three.

After round two had concluded, points leader Ty Dillon #3 told FoxSports 1: "We have speed but qualifying doesn't seem to be our game this year."

The third and final round began differently as only three cars burst out when the track went green but was again headed by Denny Hamlin #54. There was a new name at the top of the board as rookie Daniel Suarez #19 posted a 29.271 second lap time. But it was short lived for him as Brad Keselowski #22 came to the line and put in a 29.211 second lap, although just after rookie Erik Jones once again went quickest with a 29.163 lap time. As the red flag came out to end the session Chris Buescher #60 and rookie Darrell Wallace Jr #6 posted their times but could only manage 9th and 8th respectively.
