Starting from the pole position for the fifth race of the 2015 MotoGP World Championship will be Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. This is the Spaniard's first pole position of the season - in his home race. The lap time that earned him the pole was a 1:37.910.

It was announced on Friday that Lorenzo would return to Yamaha for the 2016 season, and today he was able to break the lap record at the Jerez Circuit to close out qualifying at the top - in front of reigning two-time World Champion Marc Marquez. Marquez is racing with a broken finger after his crash that was caused by the contact made during the late-race battle between eventual-winner Valentino Rossi and himself, as well as an apparent dirt bike crash after the race.

Ducati's strong start to this 2015 season has been continued as Andrea Iannone qualified third, half a second behind Lorenzo. Pol Espargaro will start fourth for Tech 3 Yamaha and Rossi begins the race from the fifth position on the grid.

In Moto2, Tito Rabat claimed his first pole position of the season at this, his home race. In Moto3, 16-year-old French rider Fabio Quartararo will start from pole.
