The 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship had its ninth round, the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase, at Road America. Joey Hand claimed pole position in qualifying on Saturday for Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 90 Ford EcoBoost Riley DP.

At the start, Hand kept the lead while Christian Fittipaldi in the second-placed No. 5 Corvette DP of Action Express Racing had to give up places to the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Racing and No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing cars.

In the GT cars' start, Earl Bamber kept the No. 912 car of Porsche North America in the GT Le Mans class lead whereas John Edwards took the No. 24 car of BMW Team RLL from fourth to second place, past the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari and the No. 3 Corvette Racing entry. On the second lap, Edwards lost those places, and on the third lap, Giancarlo Fisichella in the No. 62 Ferrari overtook Antonio García in the No. 3 Corvette.

After 22 minutes of racing, the race saw its first caution as Michael Marsal crashed the No. 97 BMW of Turner Motorsport at the Kink. Most cars decided to pit during the caution period; the No. 10 Wayne Taylor car had a fast pit stop and beat the VisitFlorida.com Racing No. 90 off pit road. The polesitting Chip Ganassi Racing No. 01 had a long pit stop to fix the issue that slowed it down; still it was able to join the track on lead lap. When the GT cars pitted on the following lap, the second-placed No. 62 GTLM Ferrari of Risi Competizione had a fast stop and beat the class-leader, the No. 912 Porsche, off pit road.

At the restart, the second-placed No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Racing car, driven then by Richard Westbrook, suffered contact and spun at Turn 1. The car continued but fell behind the field as a result of the incident. Ricky Taylor was leading in the No. 10 car, getting some pressure from Christian Fittipaldi in the No. 5 car. Fittipaldi, in turn, was getting pressure from his Action Express teammate Dane Cameron in the No. 31 car.

In GTLM, Earl Bamber had overtaken Giancarlo Fisichella to take the No. 912 Porsche back to lead. The No. 911 Porsche, driven then by Nick Tandy, also overtook Fisichella to put the two Porsches in the lead.

After the halfway point of the race was reached, Nick Tandy in the GTLM second-placed No. 911 Porsche went off at Turn 5. He rejoined the track ahead of Fisichella, bt got overtaken a few turns later. Right after that, Tandy pitted the No. 911 for the second stop and handed the car back to Patrick Pilet. The class-leading No. 912 Porsche pitted the following lap, staying ahead of the No. 912. The No. 62 Ferrari inherited the lead but fell behind the Porsches after pitting a lap later.

With about an hour remaining, Jordan Taylor pitted for what was a long pit stop for the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing car. Repairing a right rear suspension issue cost them two laps and chance to win, yet they were able to continue to get some championship points.

That left the two Action Express Racing cars in a dominant lead. With under 50 minutes remaining, Dane Cameron pitted the race-leading No. 31 for its final pit stop. A lap later, the No. 5 came to its final pit stop, joining the track right behind the sister car No. 31.

Meanwhile, the GTLM cars were having their final stops. The No. 912 Porsche was the first of the lead GTLM cars to pit. Its sister car No. 911 pitted on the following lap, joining the track ahead of the No. 912. The Risi Competizione No. 62 Ferrari stayed out for five more laps before the final stop. It exited the pits just behind the class-leading No. 912, yet didn't have the pace to challenge it for the class win.

With about 15 minutes to go, João Barbosa spun in the No. 5 car. As Oswaldo Negri in the third-placed No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier was almost half a minute behind him, he didn't lose any positions, though the gap to Cameron in the lead grew to over 15 seconds. Shortly after, Negri went off at the Carousel corner allowing Scott Pruett got past to take third place for the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 01 that started from pole.

After that, the overall top three remained unchanged until the checkered flag. Dane Cameron and Eric Curran won with the Action Express Racing No. 31. The team's one-two result was completed by the No. 5 car finishing second while the No. 01 Ganassi entry remained in third at the checkers.

On the final lap, there were two incidents affecting other classes' podiums. First, Conor Daly in the class-leading No. 38 car of Performance Tech Motorsports had an off-track excursion at Turn 5, allowing Bruno Junqueira in the No. 11 RSR Racing car to get past for the Prototype Challenge class win while Daly finished second. Then, at the very last corners of the race, second-placed Pierre Kaffer in the No. 62 Ferrari had contact with No. 912 Porsche's Jörg Bergmeister. Kaffer went off track and finished third, allowing Porsche a one-two class win as the No. 911 won the GTLM class.

In the GTD class, the No. 33 Dodge Viper of Riley Motorsports took the class win, 12.791 seconds ahead of the No. 007 Aston Martin of TRG-AMR.

The next race for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the Oak Tree Grand Prix, will take place at the Virginia International Raceway with GTLM and GTD classes present at the track on August 21-23. Follow @VAVELSportsCar on Twitter for coverage leading up to and during the race weekend.
