The third and final practice session for the FIA World Endurance Championship's Six Hours of Circuit of The Americas weekend took place on Friday afternoon.

LMP1

Porsche Team continued to be the team to beat at the top of the timesheet once again in Free Practice 3, finishing first and second-quickest in the third of three sessions run thus far this weekend.

Brendon Hartley in the No. 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid set the fastest lap time of the weekend with a 1:46.435 in this third session. The No. 18 sister car was second fastest at 0.346 seconds behind the No. 17.

Audi Sport Team Joest claimed the third and fourth positions behind the Porsche pair. Lucas di Grassi was the fastest Audi driver taking the No. 8 to third place, 1.001 seconds behind Hartley with the No. 7 being 1.772 seconds back from the leader.

The two Toyota Racing cars completed the top six; the No. 2 Toyota was 2.677 seconds from the leader and the No. 1 was one more tenth slower.

Rebellion Racing's cars were the fastest privateer LMP1 entries, in seventh and eighth overall in FP3. Mathias Beche of the No. 12 Rebellion R-One - AER was the team's fastest driver, with a best lap of 6.680 seconds slower than the leading Porsche. The other privateer LMP1 team, Team Bykolles, finished FP3 in the ninth position with their lone No. 4 car, 9.007 seconds slower than the top Porsche and 2.327 seconds from the fastest privateer LMP1 of Rebellion.

LMP2

Behind the LMP1 field, the No. 36 Signatech Alpine entry was 10th and topped the class with a time of 1:56.178. Just 0.053 seconds slower was the No. 47 KCMG Oreca-Nissan. Rounding out the top three in the LMP2 category was the No. 43 Team Sard Morand entry, 0.276 seconds behind the class leader.

GTE-Pro

The No. 92 of Porsche Team Manthey was fastest car in the GTE-Pro class as Fred Makowiecki turned a 2:05.134, marking the quickest time within the two GTE classes thus far this weekend.

The No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari was second-fastest, 0.121 seconds behind the Porsche 911 RSR of Makowiecki with No. 91 Team Manthey Porsche third and the No. 99 Aston Martin Racing fourth.

GTE-Am

Pedro Lamy in the No. 98 Aston Martin topped the GTE-Am class with a time of 2:06.639. The No. 50 Larbre Competition Corvette was second, with Paulo Ruberti's lap time 0.121 seconds slower than the best lap of Lamy.

The session was red-flagged for about eight minutes following a collision between Roman Rusinov and Patrick Dempsey. The G-Drive Racing Ligier of Rusinov was able to continue in the session within 20 minutes whereas the Dempsey - Proton Racing Porsche would not rejoin the session, spending the remainder of the time in the garage.
