VICTORY FOR VALTTERI BOTTAS IN THE SPRINT RACE AT THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX 2021

BOTTAS LEADS THE RACE AND VERSTAPPEN IS THIRD. HAMILTON STAYS FIFTH.

The two McLarens, the two Aston Martins, Alonso and Tsunoda are using the soft tires, the rest of the drivers are using the medium tires.

Hamilton in fourth position, Perez in tenth position, Latifi in fourteenth position and Kubica in last position are all under a second ahead of their nearest driver and can use the DRS.

Bottas leads the race with a +1.771 advantage over Verstappen.

HAMILTON LOST THREE POSITIONS IN GASLY'S MISHAP AND IS NOW IN FOURTH PLACE.

Hamilton starts well in second position, Bottas continues in first place AND GASLY GOES OFF THE TRACK ON LAP 1 AND ABANDONS.

Sprint qualifying for the Italian GP will start in minutes

Despite setting the fastest time in Q3 of Friday's qualifying, Valtteri Bottas was penalized because prior to the session, the Mercedes driver fitted a new turbo, MGU-H and MGU-K engine.

This penalty will apply only for Sunday's race, so on race day, Bottas will start from the last position on the grid.

For today's sprint qualifying, Bottas will continue to start from pole position.

The two Mercedes dominate the first two places in qualifying, followed by Verstappen and the Ferraris.

For now, Vettel, Ocon, the two Haas and Kubica are eliminated with seconds to go in Q1.

During the weekend, the stewards will pay special attention to drivers who exceed the track limits in turns 1-2, 5 and 11. 
Single-seaters who exceed the track limits may be subject to penalties.

For 2021, the FIA implemented a new qualifying system in Formula 1. This change stipulates that Free Practice 1 will be run on Friday, as well as qualifying based on Q1, Q2 and Q3. This qualifying will define Saturday's starting grid. On that day, free practice 2 and a short qualifying, based on a sprint race of no more than 100 kilometers, will determine the final starting grid positions for Sunday's big race.

The sprint race will award three points in the drivers' world championship standings to the driver who manages to win it, two to the second and one point to the third.

In the 2004 Formula 1 World Championship, Rubens Barrichello set the fastest lap ever recorded with a time of 1:21.046 in his Ferrari.

The Monza circuit is Italy's most representative track in the history of motor racing. It made its debut in Formula 1 in the first championship held in 1950. It has a length of 5.793km, two DRS zones and the race will be 53 laps.
