New York City FC today participated in the Expansion Draft alongside Orlando City in one of the biggest days of the club's early history. Consisting of ten rounds, the teams took turns choosing "unprotected" players from other clubs around Major League Soccer. Orlando City choose first and made a surprise pick of Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts. Ricketts will share the position with injured Tally Hall who was acquired from Dallas some time ago.

Here are the complete Expansion Draft results:

NYCFC took two Real Salt Lake players, something not surprising due to the Kreis connection. Many City supporters were excited to see the club select forward Patrick Mullins who shined with the Revolution in the MLS Cup. Another significant selection was Thomas McNamara. McNamara had been selected by DC United in the Chivas USA disposal draft and never played a minute for DC. He was highly ranked by pundits and City supporters.

Today the NYCFC roster grew from just six players to sixteen. Overall, the club now has now taken shape a few months before the preseason begins. The club also has the third designated player slot open, although it now sounds that the third DP may come from Colombia.
