The Seattle Sounders of MLS welcomed Club Tijuana of Liga MX to CenturyLink Field Tuesday night for an early season friendly. The friendly was made so the Sounders could prepare for the type of teams they will be playing later this year when the CONCACAF Champions League begin.

The Sounders presented a lineup that consisted of five starters, a few bench players and some Seattle Sounders 2 (S2) players. The Sounders pushed for an early goal and would finally get it in the 11th minute. After forward Lamar Neagle missed a few earlier chances, he slammed home a pass from first round pick Cristian Roldan. The initial cross was sent in by Aaron Kovar.

The lead would only last for about nine minutes as Tijuana was able to get the match level at 1-1 in the 20th minute. Dayro Moreno, Tijuana's leading scorer, scored the first one on an impossible angle. Just seven minutes later, Richard Ruiz would give the Xolos their first lead of the night. The ball was caught by goal keeper Cirilo Saucedo and played out to the midfield. Alfredo Moreno found a streaking Dayro Moreno going down the right side of the pitch. When Sounders 'keeper Troy Perkins came out to cut down the angle, Moreno found a wide open Ruiz to take an early 2-1 lead.

The second half saw the addition of substitutes throughout the rest of the night. Andy Rose came on for Micheal Azira at the half and eventually scored the tying goal in the 56th minute after a beautiful cross was sent in by Kovar. That would be the end of the scoring for the rest of the night.

It was a very physical match for a friendly. Both teams got in each other's faces a few separate times and had separated by the fellow team mates. There were a total of six yellow cards, four for Tijuana and two for Seattle, issued during the match.

This was Seattle's ninth international friendly and now have an all-time record of 2-5-2 in these friendlies. It is the clubs second straight draw following last year’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspurs. The Sounders have a record of 1-0-1 (win-loss-tie) against Mexican opposition.

The Sounders return to MLS action this Saturday when they travel to Frisco, TX to face FC Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm EST.
