Denmark came from 1-2 down to win against the United States, with Nicklas Bendtner scoring two late goals, to give Denmark the win in this international friendly.

Bendtner came close for the Danes in the 15th minute when a brilliant cross from Michael Krohn-Dehli was well cleared by John Anthony Brooks, to deny Bendtner an easy goal scoring chance, Christian Eriksen was also denied a chance to score when his half volley in the 17th minute, skied over the bar. That chance would come to hurt Denmark when Jozy Altidore fired the US into the lead. A cross came over from Timothy Chandler found Altidore, who eyed the ball as it dropped into the penalty box, the striker managed to out muscle the two centre backs as the ball fell, the striker and fired the ball past Anderson, on the half volley, to give the United States and unlikely lead in the 20th minute.

However the lead didn’t last long when Bendtner equalized for Denmark. A well-worked move by Denmark saw a low cross from Daniel Wass was well dummied by Lasse Vibe, and the trailing ball found Bendtner with an open net, and the Wolfsburg striker tapped the ball in from close range to equalize for the Danes. Bendtner was close to bagging a brace when the ball rolled in front of goal after a cross from Vibe, but the former Arsenal striker failed to capitalize on the chance. Bendtner was at it again in the second half when the U.S. defence fell asleep for a second, as the ball bounced between the centre backs, allowing Bendtner to slip in behind, but his dipping volley flew past the far post in the 47th minute. Nick Rimando was called into action when a terrible defensive error again by Michael Orozco saw the ball trickle to Eriksen inside the penalty box, but his shot was well saved by Rimando.

Another defensive error from the U.S. almost resulted in Denmark taking the lead when Brek Shea kicked the ball into the back of Rimando’s head after a goal scramble, but Vibe couldn’t take advantage of the chance, and Rimando cleared the danger in the 59th minute. Despite Denmark’s possession and majority of chances, the U.S. took the lead again when Michael Bradley played a brilliant ball over to Altidore, one-on-one with the keeper, and the striker played the ball across the face of goal to Aron Johannsson, who made it 2-1 to the United States, after 68 minutes. Denmark responded 15 minutes later when Bendtner bagged his brace, after a fantastic counter attack by the hosts, Martin Braithwaite had a shot deflected by a U.S. defender from inside the penalty box, but Bendtner was there on the rebound, and the striker slotted to ball under Rimando, to make it 2-2. The U.S. suffered heartbreak in stoppage time when Bendtner got his hat trick, Eriksen played in a fantastic ball to the Wolfsburg striker. Bendtner controlled the ball well inside the penalty box, and the Dane volleyed the ball past a stretching Rimando, to win the game for Denmark.

The U.S. plays again next Tuesday when they square off against Switzerland.
