New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips had an incredible 2014 MLS season when he scored 27 goals and tied the all-time goal scoring mark in a season. Many said he wouldn't have the same 2015 MLS season now that Thierry Henry has retired and is no longer a member of the Red Bulls. Wright-Phillips is out to prove to the league and everyone else that he is capable of playing without Henry.

Wright-Phillips took a step in the right direction after notching a goal and an assist and was name MLS Player of the Week after last weekend’s match against the Atlantic Cup rivals D.C. United. He scored his first goal of the season in the 25th minute after receiving a lob pass from Dax McCarthy. He was able to get past a defender and bury the ball past a United goal keeper Bill Hamid.

He notched his first assist of the season in the 71st minute after United turned the ball over at midfield. He passed to an open Sam Lloyd who was able to put the ball in the net for a Red Bulls 2-0 lead. That would be enough for the Red Bulls to earn their first win of the 2015 season. The Red Bulls currently sit in second place of the Eastern Conference behind rival New York City FC.

This was Wright-Philipps first player of the week award in 2015. He won the award last season after week eight and week 27. The Red Bulls travel to Columbus this weekend with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm EST this coming Saturday.
