The Seattle Reign played host to the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The Red Stars entered the match with a six game unbeaten streak to begin the season. The Reign entered with a two game unbeaten streak and looked to get back on track after a rough start to the season. The Red Stars were missing eight players because of international call ups while the Reign was missing just two.

The first ten minutes of the game saw a lot of back and forth between the two teams. The first real action in the game came in the 13th minute. Kim Little was played a through ball and found herself inside the 18 yard box. The ball fell to the feet of Merritt Mathias, but she was unable to get any real power on it and Michele Dalton was able to make an easy save.

Reign goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer made a huge save in the 20th off a Vanessa DiBernardo shot. The ensuing corner was sent in by DiBernardo. Kopmeyer game out to make a punch save and missed. Luckily Elli Reed was there to clear the follow up show off the line before it went in.

In the 31st minute, Beverly Yanez found herself alone at the top of the 18 yard box after some nifty movements. She took a strike from just inside the box, but it was just a little wide of net and Dalton was able to make an easy save. The Red Stars came right back down the field and put immediate pressure on the Reign. After a deflected shot went out for a corner, the Red Stars were not able to capitalize and Seattle cleared the ball.

In the 37th minute, Little was played a ball by Keelin Winters and she sprinted into the box. Her shot on goal made Dalton work, but she was able to make a comfortable save in the end. In the 40th minute, the Red Stars made their first substitution of the game. Cara Wells came in for Jennifer Hoy who appeared to be suffering from an injury of some sorts.

In the 43rd minute, Michele Lomnicki and Amber Brooks were taken out by Dalton after a corner kick. Both players remained down for a few seconds and the referee blew play dead. Trainers came out on the field for both players, but they were able to jog off on their own power.

After one minute of first half stoppage time, the referee called a halt to the first half. Both teams headed to the locker room tie 0-0.

The Reign took the second half kickoff looking for the first goal of the night. The first five to ten minutes of the second half was a lot like the first half, both teams being cautious and looking for an opening to punish the other team.

In the 60th minute, the game saw its first yellow card of the night after Danielle Colaprico tackled Danielle Foxhoven from behind. She stayed down on the field for a while before she was able to walk off on her own power. Foxhoven would finally see the end of your night in the 71st minute as Mariah Nogueira was subbed in for her.

After the substitution, the Red Stars put pressure on the Reign defense for a solid minute or two. A dangerous cross was sent in by Taryn Hemmings, but none of the Chicago players in the box were able to get a shot on goal. The Reign was not able to clear the ball and Sofia Huerta tried to beat Reed on the end, but was not able to get her shot on frame.

In the 76th minute, Seattle finally found some possession as Nogueira played the ball to Little who weaved her way through traffic. The ball fell to the feet of Mathias and her shot rung off the crossbar. After a few more seconds of the ball bouncing around, it was finally put out of play.

The Reign saw another chance to score in the 82nd minute. Rachel Corsie played a ball into Mathias and her shot was deflected and hit the side netting. The ensuing corner kick was headed by Yanez and Dalton was able to play the ball over the crossbar for another Reign corner kick.

The fourth official signaled four minutes of stoppage time. In the first minute of stoppage time, the Red Stars had the ball fall to the feel of Mary Luba. Luba was not able to get a shot off after a great defensive effort from Corsie. 

Mathias earned the Reign's first yellow card of the night after she pulled down Huerta from behind. After four minutes, the referee called a stop to the match. The game was very physical and the referee had been letting them play and get away with some very physical fouls.
