Whether you love it or you hate it, the MLS All Star Game is upon us once again. Regardless of which side you fall down on in the debate on the format, the debate on how Commissioner's Picks should be used or on any of the other litany of issues which this game has, the MLS All Stars will take on Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Recent history bodes well for MLS

The MLS All Stars have enjoyed success in recent seasons, defeating Chelsea three years ago when they were reigning European champions. That was not a one-off, as they went on to defeat Bayern Munich last season.

Bookmakers favor Tottenham

Most fans and pundits alike are predicting an MLS victory in this match as well, although the bookmakers disagree. Most have Spurs as slight favorites to win. However, they clearly aren't paying attention to the fact that the All Stars boast players such as Nick Rimando, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Kaka, David Villa, Clint Dempsey and Kei Kamara, all of whom are in midseason form.

Spurs are in preseason form

Although Spurs have brought a strong team for this friendly, their players are all in early preseason form. They have yet to play a friendly this summer, and will play only one more before opening the season on August 8th at Manchester United

While that will likely mean that their players are well rested, they'll be nowhere near match fit. Sure, the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, and Hugo Lloris would all waltz right in to the MLS All Star starting XI. However, this is a contingent of MLS players which could give most teams in the world a run for its money.

Notable abscences

Although players such as Robbie Keane, Michael Bradley and Steven Gerrard have had to pull out due to injuries, this is still a supremely talented MLS side. They boast a former FIFA World Player of the Year in Kaka, two former FIFA World Cup winners in the starting lineup (Kaka and David Villa), players who have represented their countries on countless occasions and played for some of the top clubs in the world.

Regardless of the sport, All Star Games are always less about what happens within the game rather than the sense of occasion which permeates the whole event. This game has had its share of remarkable moments which will be long remembered. Be it Eddie Johnson's stoppage time winner in the 3-2 victory over Chelsea in 2012 or Thierry Henry's Man of the Match performance in his final All Star appearance last season, this game has a way of delivering special moments.

Who knows what Wednesday's match will bring. It could prove to de Deandre Yedlin's coming out party for Spurs against a number of his former teammates, or it could prove to be the moment when the wider MLS community finally sits up and takes notice of a player like Ethan Finlay. Regardless of what happens, you're going to want to be watching.
