According to BBC Sport, Ashley Cole has agreed a move to the LA Galaxy after his contract with AS Roma was terminated by mutual consent earlier today.

Cole has constantly been linked with a move to Bruce Arena’s side after the former England international was left out of favor during his time in Rome, making just 11 appearances for the Roman club in two years.

If Cole is to join the Galaxy, he will not sign on a Designated Player contract, however Roma will continue to pay the majority of Cole's salary over the next five months, while Cole has also agreed to a considerable pay cut.

LA Reshuffle

LA are currently undergoing a massive reshuffling this winter, and Galaxy fan favorites Omar Gonzalez and Juninho have both been sold to Liga MX sides Pachuca and Tijuana respectively.

The Galaxy are also close to adding Standard Liege left back Jelle van Damme and AC Milan defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong to their newly shaped squad, and Cole is looking likely to be the first new addition for LA this winter.

The 35-year-old is one of the best left backs ever to play for England, making over 100 appearances for the Three Lions. Cole represented England at three World Cups, and in 2010 the then Chelsea full back was named England player of the year.

Amongst the Best

Cole is also regarded as one of the best defenders to play in the history of the Premier League. Cole came through at Arsenal and spent eight years at the Gunners, being a part of the famous ‘Invincibles’ side that went an entire season undefeated, before making the move to Chelsea in 2006.

With Chelsea, Cole won the Champions League with the West London side in 2012, and in total Cole won three Premier Leagues and seven FA Cups in his time in London, and made over 400 appearances in the Premier League in a 16 year period.
