On Sunday Canada and Trinidad and Tobago will face each other at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. The two nations will be battling each other for control of group B and to secure their place in the semifinals.

The Canucks enjoyed a landslide victory over Guyana on Thursday at the BBVA Compass Stadium. The North Americans destroyed the South American nation 5-0 to kick off the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Qualifier Championship.

Trinidad and Tobago also earned three points in their opener of the tournament. The Women Soca Warriors completed the 2-1 comeback victory against Guatemala on the same day and at the same place when the Canadians played.

Les Rouges currently is in first place due to their positive five goal differential. However, if T&T can find a way to defeat the Big Red on Sunday then they will jump ahead in the standings. Not to mention they will find themselves just one game away from qualifying to the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games. The winners of the semis will punch their ticket for Brazil in August.

However, for the Caribbean nation to pull out the upset victory on Sunday they will need to make sure that their offense is accurate with their opportunities. The Canadian midfield will dictate the possession for the majority of the match giving Trinidad and Tobago very little time to build their attack. The way how they break down Canada’s defense is through their athleticism.

In their opener T&T overpowered and overwhelmed the Chapines. The Caribbean nation was able to create 11 more shots than the Central Americans did in the match. Trinidad and Tobago striker’s Tasha St. Louis and Mariah Shade were constantly burning their defenders and causing havoc in the back. The midfield of T&T controlled the tempo of the game and never let the Guatemalans find their rhythm.

However, it did take the Caribbean nation sometime to break through and level the match 1-1. It was not until the 74th minute when midfielder Kennya Cordner tied the match. After tying the game T&T secured their comeback victory four minutes later when St. Louis made it 2-1.

The main reason for the late delay of Trinidad and Tobago’s goals was because of their missed chances. Only six out of their 15 shots were placed on target. Against the Canadians they cannot afford to let that many chances slip away.

Trinidad’s goalkeeper Kimika Forbes must also put in a stellar performance against the Canucks. If she does not stand tall between the posts then the Caribbean nation will be in for a long and rough Sunday afternoon. The Big Red offense moves fast and is lethal, plus Canada’s manager John Herdman has options in the bench he can use on Sunday.

However, even though Herdman would want to give other players a chance, he will most likely go with veterans for this game.

“We know Trinidad and Tobago have been tough opposition for teams,” Canada’s manager told Canada Soccer. “They were narrowly beaten by USA in the opening game of the FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifiers 1:0, narrowly beaten by Mexico in extra time, and took Costa Rica to the last couple of minutes. So we know athletically and defensively they are strong and quick.”

Canucks captain Christine Sinclair, Deanne Rose, Desiree Scott, Josee Belanger and hat-trick performer Ashley Lawrence will be called upon on Sunday to achieve the three points. Les Rouges is just 90 minutes away from securing their spot into the next round and after enjoying a solid performance against Guyana, there is no need to change the starting eleven.

Prediction: Trinidad and Tobago 2-3 Canada
