From all of us here at VAVEL USA we thank you for joining us in this 1-1 physical draw between the Galaxy and the Timbers on a cool Sunday night at the StubHub Center. This is Jorge Belon signing off.

Full Time: The Los Angeles Galaxy dropped two points in this match as they failed to convert on the 14 chances they created in the game. However, a fortunate own-goal levels the match 1-1 for LA. Los Angeles was also very lucky to end the game with all 11 players on the pitch, De Jong's tackle on Nagbe should of been a direct red card and that might have changed the final outcome of the match. However, in the end the Timbers and the Galaxy share the spoils in this physical match that saw 26 tackles, 22 fouls and four yellow cards shown between the two clubs.

'95: However, the play ends with the Timber clearing the ball and the game ends in a 1-1 draw

'95: Zardes earns LA's last corner of the match, Magee to take the set piece

'91: The match has turned chaotic as the Galaxy keep looking for the second goal, and the Timbers are trying to hang on for the draw.

'88: Portland makes their second substitute: Mattocks comes in for Valeri

'85: The Galaxy are running at full speed searching for the game winner

'84: The play started with Lletget sending a hopeful cross into the box. Borchers dove to attempt to head the ball out for a goal kick. Instead the MLS veteran headed the ball into the back of the net

'84: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LA receives some help from Portland as Borchers scores an own-goal to level the match 1-1

'82: The Galaxy has made their final substitute of the match: Gordon replaces Husidic

'80: LA has wasted multiple chances in the match and still find themselves down a goal

'78: Another corner for LA has led to the ball being cleared (0-1)

'76: Portland makes their first substitute, Grabavoy enters the match for the injured Nagbe

'76: Nagbe was forced to leave the match after the foul from De Jong through a stretcher

'73: De Jong benefits from the referee decision to show him a yellow card after tackling Nagbe with his studs on his ankle

'71:The Galaxy are throwing everything at the Timbers defense but nothing is coming from it

'70: LA's sixth corner of the match ends with the Timbers clearing the ball out of the box (0-1)

'68: Nagbe appears to have jam his toe after going in for a challenge. He will stay in the game but is walking with a little bit of a limp.

'66: Zardes finds Lletget in the box with space to fire a shot. However, the former U.S. youth international sends the ball wide for a goal kick (0-1)

'63: The Galaxy make their second substitute, Jamieson IV in for Dos Santos

'62: The Timbers at this point will be satisfied to live off counters and attempt to catch the Galaxy sleeping.

'59: LA has responded aggressively after conceding a goal. However, Timbers' goalkeeper Kwarasey has been making saves, plus poor decisions in the box have kept the Galaxy off the scoreboard.

'57: Zardes gets in the way of Magee before he takes a close range shot. In result, Magee placed the ball just wide of the left hand post (0-1).

'55: The Galaxy nearly tied the game but Kwarasey denies the Galaxy with a goal line save (0-1)

'52: Adi received the ball near the edge of the box. He took a few steps into the box and made Galaxy's defender Garcia freeze. He then blasted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net to shock LA.

'52: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!! Adi breaks the deadlock and gives Portland the 1-0 lead on the road.

'50: Portland's offense has come to life as they are starting to connect passes

'49: The Timbers register their second shot of the match but Melano places the ball over the cross bar (0-0)

'48: Magee takes a shot from just outside the box, but the ball rolls just wide of the left hand post (0-0)

'47: LA's midfield is still in control of the ball

'45:And their back! The Galaxy start the half with the ball (0-0)

Halftime: The first half can easily be summed up for LA as wasted opportunities and poor first touches. Their execution in the second half will need to improve drastically if they want to pick up the three points at home. The Timbers need to just show more life in the midfield by doing basics and stringing more then two passes together.

Halftime: The first half ends with Lletget firing a ball well over the cross bar to keep the scoreless draw intact. LA was able to create seven shots but only three of them were place on target. The Timbers only registered one shot.

'35: The Timbers earned another corner, but the play ends with a foul in the Galaxy's favor (0-0)

'34: The tempo of the game is going back and forth. As both clubs are running at each other defenses but their final touch is not up to par

'32: Magee is able to get off a shot from the left hand part of the box. The ball sails past the post and for a corner kick (0-0)

'31: However, nothing comes from the corner and the Galaxy calmly clear the ball (0-0)

'30: Timbers earn their first corner of the match, Valeri to take it

'29: Portland has slowed down the match and put pressure on the home clubs defense. However, their execution in the final third has been poor

'26: The Galaxy continue to make runs and passes around the box. However, their touch in the final third is lacking accuracy,

'23: The game has opened up a bit. LA nearly takes the lead when Zardes attempts to find Dos Santos in the center of the box. But the Timbers defender barely made enough contact on the ball to keep the Galaxy off the scoreboard (0-0)

'21: Timbers' Melano bailed on the flat footed Galaxy defense as he failed to make contact on Valeri's cross and the ball rolled just wide of the left hand post (0-0)

'18: The Timbers are starting to now get some time on the ball

'17: However, Dos Santos failed to take advantage of the dangerous set piece and blasts the ball directly towards the wall. Another wasted opportunity for LA (0-0)

'17: Borchers receives up the games first yellow card

'5: Neither side has yet to find rhythm of keep possession of the ball for long periods.

'2: Rogers is walking around with a limp but appears to be shaking it off. LA's head coach and general manager Bruce Arena will most likely be keeping an eye on him as the game progresses.

'1: LA has a nervous moment when Rogers seems in pain from his hip after challenging for a ball.

'1: And we are off as the Timbers start the game with possession of the ball.

Both of clubs are in need of three points out of this match to get their season back on track.

Hello ladies and gentleman this is Jorge Belon, and we are live from the StubHub Center on this Sunday night. We are in store to watch the Los Angeles Galaxy take on the Portland Timbers in this heavy wight Western Conference match up.

Predicting the outcome for this match is a little tough. However, one thing is for sure the Timbers and the Galaxy will provide an exciting and physical match up on Sunday night.
As for the Timbers they are sitting in ninth place with four points. A victory can place them back into the top six. However, a defeat for Portland can potentially derail their season. The last thing Porter wants is for the gap between him and the rest of the conference to grow. History has shown that when a club falls too far behind in the competitive West, that usually resolves with no post-seasons.
However, both of these clubs will be looking to earn three points. The Galaxy is currently in fourth place in the Western Conference with seven points. A victory can make them jump as high to second place if other results go their way. A defeat might see them drop to seventh place and out of the playoff picture.
The defense of Portland will need to drastically improve from their last three performances. Just against Orlando the back line allowed them to create 15 shots and placed seven of those shots on target. In fact the Ghana international goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has yet to register a shutout this season.
Porter will have to put these injuries aside and rely on his veterans like: Nat Borchers, Nagbe, Valeri, Adi and Diego Chará. Lucas Melano and Darion Asprilla will also need to step up and put in better performances against the Galaxy on Sunday. In the previous match the South Americans attackers failed to register a single shot. If they fail to do that there is a chance that substitutes Darren Mattocks or Jack McInerney might get the nod to start or be subbed in early in the match.
Timbers head coach Caleb Porter will need to turn their season around quickly but he will have to do it without his captain Liam Ridgewell. The English center back will be out of action for four to six weeks due to a hamstring injury. Plus defender Andy Thoma will not be suiting up for Portland for six weeks after suffering a knee injury. Plus veteran Ben Zemanski is grounded with a groin injury.
However, the Timbers also enter this match with a few injuries and not in the best of form. Portland has started the season slow going 1-1-2 and a negative three goal differential. The defending champions’ only victory came against the Columbus Crew SC in the season opener at Providence Park on Mach sixth. Since they defeated the Crew 2-1 Portland has lost two of the next three matches. They have also allowed eight goals in the next three games, including a 4-1 defeat to Orlando City SC at the Citrus Bowl last Sunday.
The obvious starter for the match on Sunday is U.S. international forward Gyasi Zardes. Now the main question is who Arena will start next to him? Will he give youngster Ariel Lassiter another chance? Or will he give Bradford Jamieson IV or Jose Villarreal a rare opportunity to start. Arena might also turn to his veterans like Mike Magee or Alan Gordon to pair up with Zardes up top. Whoever, Arena chooses to kick off the match they will be subbed out for Dos Santos at some point.
Now getting a point on the road most of the time is a good result for the traveling club. That completely changes when the opposing team goes down to 10-men in the first half. A scoreless draw is a disappointing result for Los Angeles on the road.
However, it is safe to say that Dos Santos will not be starting on Sunday. So now Arena will have to figure out where will the goals come from? Keane is out and with him has gone the goals for LA. In the Galaxy’s last match they were forced to settle for a scoreless draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Saturday.
“I expect him to be available,” Arena told Serrano, about the two time World Cup veteran on Friday.
According to the LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano, the Mexican playmaker is set to see some action against the Timbers on Sunday. This game will mark his first match since the season opener 4-1 victory against D.C. United on March sixth at the StubHub Center. Arena on Friday’s training stated that Dos Santos will most likely be on the 18-men game day roster.
Kennedy and Keane have been ruled out of action for at least a month or more. Gerrard will most likely not be able to play in this match. Larentowicz has just started to get some playing time for the Galaxy United Soccer League (USL) club, Los Angeles Galaxy II. As for Leonardo, he is still recovering on the sideline. However, Dos Santos is expected to be an option for Arena on Sunday.
The injury list for Los Angeles contains: Dan Kennedy (Partial groin tear for one month), Keane (Knee surgery out for four to six weeks), Steven Gerrard (Calf injury), Giovani dos Santos (Left leg injury), Jeff Larentowicz (Groin injury) and Leonardo (Leg injury).
The Galaxy once again this season has made their home into a fortress. In the two matches played at Carson this season, LA has won both games and has outscored their opponents seven to two. However, the timing of the Timbers visit is bad since six players are injured for LA. Plus four of the starters for the Galaxy have been sidelined.
After the collapse in the ending of the season the Galaxy made some major changes to the roster. The beginning of the end for LA occurred with the humbling home defeat to the Timbers. Now Los Angeles’ head coach and general manager Bruce Arena and the rest of the team will have a chance to avenge the sobering defeat on Sunday.
After that defeat the Galaxy played their final game of the season at Sporting Park on October 25th. They ended the regular season with a 2-1 lost to Sporting Kansas City. The Five Time MLS Cup Champions started the MLS Playoffs in the Knockout Round against the Seattle Sounders F.C. at CenturyLink Field. The defense fell apart and they were eliminated by the Sounders 3-2 on October the 28th.
Galaxy’s captain Robbie Keane gave the home club the 1-0 lead in the 36th minute. However, in the second half Portland responded by scoring three goals in a span of nine minutes to come back and take a 3-1 lead over the star studded Galaxy. The Nigerian forward Fanendo Adi scored two goals in three minutes (65TH and 68th minute.). Keane managed to cut the lead in half in the 84th minute to make it 3-2. However, U.S. international Darlington Nagbe and Argentinean Maximiliano Urrtui scored in the final five minutes to complete the 5-2 victory.
However, in the last five meetings the Timbers have been starting to stand their own ground against LA. They have lost twice and forced the Galaxy to two draws. The latest match between these two clubs ended in a shocking defeat for Los Angeles
LA is winning the series by earn three points in six of the 14 matches. The Galaxy’s record against the defending MLS Cup Champions is (W-D-L) 6-4-4 and they have a positive seven goal differential. These two clubs have faced each other eight times at the StubHub Center and the Galaxy is in complete control when they face in California. The five time MLS Cup Champions have a 5-2-1 record. LA has outscored Portland 19 to nine when they play in Carson.
The Los Angeles Galaxy and the Portland Timbers will be facing each other for the 15th time on Sunday at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
