1' : Here we go!

Tonight is a special night for the Red Stars as they honor Michelle Lomnicki who retired before the season began. She holds the record for the most games played with the Red Stars

For Portland : Reynolds, Menges, Horan, Nadim, Long, Brynjarsdottir, Sinclair, Sonnett, Heath, Franch, and Klingenberg

Lineups are out here at Toyota Park! For the Red Stars : Naeher, Hoy, Gilliland, Short, Johnston, DiBernado, Huerta, DaCosta, Johnson, Press, and Colaprico

Christen Press will also be back for the Red Stars and the top scorer in the NWSL will be looking to add to her tally. Everything goes through her in terms of offense and she can certainly pull off a stunner in this match. She will be the main problem for the Thorns backline.

The top two players for the Thorns are Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan. Both play for the national team and both are the best offensive players for Portland. Heath is the main playmaker and distributor for the Thorns. Her five assists are top of the NWSL and she will make life difficult for Chicago on the wings. She has the quality to make defenders pay with her speed. If the full-backs and centre-backs aren't careful, she will make a dangerous run into the box and put the ball into the back of the net. We saw that in the World Cup Final against Japan where Heath scored the final goal for the United States on a play where she ran into the box and put home a cross from the right. She has the quality to do that against Chicago. The key for the Red Stars will be the discipline of the fullbacks. They have to make sure that when they up in attack, they do it at the right time and don't get too caught out of position. If they do, it could be trouble.

The Portland Thorns FC are the only team in the NWSL that hasn't lost a game thus far. They sit 3rd in the NWSL table right behind Chicago and Washington as Portland has 13 points. They most recently drew their last game against the defending champions Seattle Reign FC. This is the second draw for Portland in their last three games as they have played draws against Seattle twice with a 4-1 win against Washington sandwiched in between both games. For a team that struggles to score, it must be worrying for Portland to not add on to that offensive outburst against Washington. All but two of Portland's games have seen the score line of 1-0 or 0-0. Portland has the players to be a top threat on offense, they just need to execute.

It was an impressive result considering that the Red Stars didn't have their trio of stars who were representing the USWNT against Japan. Striker Christen Press, defender Julie Johnston, and keeper Alyssa Naeher were all out of action against Sky Blue FC. Luckily for Chicago, all three will be available in today's fixture. It will be a big boost for the Red Stars as they get three top-notch players back in the starting XI. The big key will be the return of Naeher, who held a shutout streak that was minutes away from being the longest streak in NWSL history. Along with Johnston, the Red Stars defense is one of the best in the league and will certainly look to earn another shutout.

The Chicago Red Stars are tied at the top of the NWSL table at the moment. They are tied with the Washington Spirit as both teams have 14 points a piece. After losing their opening match to the Houston Dash, the Red Stars have picked up form and have reeled off a six-game unbeaten streak. They drew with Sky Blue FC in their most recent game at home. It was Sofia Huerta who scored the opening goal, her first of the season so far. She was played through on a great ball by Danielle Colaprico and calmly slotted home the opening goal of the game. It's been a tough sophomore campaign for Huerta, who was a big part of the Red Star's run to the semi's last year. The goal will bring a lot of confidence to the striker from Santa Clara. But Chicago was pegged back in the game in the second half and had to deal with only getting a point from this match. It was substitute Leah Galton who's header was the equalizer for Sky Blue FC

This is a huge game for both teams as both Chicago and Portland can go top of the table with a win in this game. The last time these two teams met it was a 2-1 win for the Thorns on August 9th in Portland. In the past two fixtures, Chicago has failed to beat Portland. The last two games have seen the Red Stars draw and lost to the Thorns and they will be looking to make sure that they walk away with all three points.
