The Montreal Impact faced off against NYCFC at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx trying to move up the standings.

A super tight first half :

NYCFC got off to a better start dominating possession and play and taking the game to the Montreal Impact. Just five minutes into the game James Pantemis was forced into action making a great diving save on Maxi Moralez to keep it scoreless.

The Impact responded a minute later with their first shot of the game and it landed on target but this time NYCFC keeper Sean Johnson would make the save. We didn't see another shot on goal until the 18th minute as the battle was staying in the neutral zone when Gary Makay Stevens got another great shot but once again Pantemis made another big diving save.

Romell Quioto had a chance to break the tie at the 30th minute when he got a great shot off on net but Johnson once again was up to the task of saving it. Three minutes later Makay Steven had another chance to score but Pantemis would not be beaten making the save.

Two minutes later Bojan thought he had scored for the Impact as the ball went into the net the offside false went up. The half finished 0-0 with both clubs still looking for that crucial goal.

A bad finish for the Impact :

For the first 15 minutes, it remained a tight physical battle between both clubs as they were still looking for the opening goal. At the 60th minute, Romell Quioto got another big shot on goal but Johnson once again was there to keep it scoreless.

Six minutes later it was Pantemis turn to make a brilliant punch save to keep NYCFC at bay and would then follow it up with another diving save. Two minutes later NYCFC would get the game's first goal as Jesus Madina off a failed clearing attempt from Rudy Camacho would get the ball into the empty net for the 1-0 lead.

In the 79th minute Maxi Urruti who had come in as sub had a great chance to tie the game at one but Johnson was standing tall in net. It only got worse for the Impact as four minutes later Maxi Moralez would beat Pantemis with a shot from just inside the box to make it 2-0 for NYCFC.

Three minutes later NYCFC would be given a corner and off the ensuing play, Tony Rocha would put it out of reach for the Impact with another shot that would make it 3-0. Three minutes later the Impact finally got on the scoreboard when Romell Quioto got a quick shot that beat Johnson between his legs to make it 3-1.

That was as close as it would get an NYCFC would take the win and the three points putting the Impact in a must-win situation for their next three games to make the playoffs. That starts on Tuesday when they host Nashville FC at Redbull Arena.
