New meeting
Wales and Denmark meet for the first time in a major national team tournament. No match has ever ended in a draw, it has always had a winner.
Remembering the old days
Denmark won the 92 EURO, was fourth in 1964, and reached the semifinals in 1984. The last time they got past the group stage was in 2004, not avoiding a 3-0 triumph by the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
Repetition of the restrospect?
After their debut in 2016, this is Wales' second consecutive appearance at a Eurocup. The Welsh had a memorable debut, with the Chris Coleman-coached team finishing first in their group ahead of England, Slovakia and Russia, before eliminating Northern Ireland (1-0) and Belgium (3-1) en route to their first appearance in a semi-final of a UEFA or FIFA-organized competition. The fine campaign was rounded off by Portugal, who won 2-0 and took the title of the edition.
Denmark wracked by drama
After 17 years, Denmark is back in the Euro round of 16. However, it was not easy to secure qualification, which came in the last round. Member of Group B, the Danish team had a shock in the debut. Its main player, Christian Eriksen, from Internazionale, suffered a sudden illness. The player was revived on the field and was taken to hospital. After one, the ball rolled for Denmark and Finland, in which, the latter came out the winner. Playing as equals, the latter was defeated 2-1 by Belgium. History changed in front of Russia: a 4-1 thrashing, stamping their place as runner-up with three points.
Wales Way
In Group A, Wales qualified in second place with four points. The Welsh beat Turkey, drew against Switzerland, but lost to Italy, where they failed to score a goal.
Kickoff time
The Wales vs Denmark match will be played at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam, Nederland.
The kick-off is scheduled at 11:00pm ET
