Spain opened the group stage with a 28-27 victory over Germany. After that they beat Norway by the same score. In the third round they beat Brazil by 32 to 25 and in the fourth they suffered their first defeat, by 36 to 31. Finally, in the last round, it beat Argentina by 36 to 27.
