"There’s nothing more important in football than qualifying for a World Cup, whether you’re a player or a coach. We’ve got a strong squad with the experience of Russia 2018 behind it, but we’re not ruling out the possibility of switching formations. It just depends on what the opposition does. Egypt's Hossam El Badry is 61 years old and has called 27 players for this Fifa date, but Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) have not been released to face the Angolans because the country is on the red list in relation to the Premier League health protocol in the fight against Covid-19. The Egyptian team is still negotiating whether they will be able to travel to Gabon.

Senegal is the highest ranked African team in Fifa's rankings, at 21st. Egypt is in the Top 50, at 46th, and represented the continent at the last World Cup in Russia in 2018. Angola, on the other hand, is in 126th and therefore had to play the first round of the Qualifiers. The Palancas Negras won both first- and second-round clashes against Gambia, 1-0 and 2-1.
