The best teams in Group D face each other in a great dish to define the pass to the next round

Today we will have a great match, they face the first and second places of Group D of the qualification for the World Cup in Africa, since the leader Ivory Coast travels to face Cameroon knowing that a point will ensure their pass to the third round.

A near-perfect campaign so far has Ivory Coast on the brink of the next round, while Cameroon hope to achieve a surprising result in the final match of the group stage to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive.

November 16, 2021 11:54 AM ET

News from Ivory Coast

As for the Ivory Coast, their main goal threat will be Ajax player Sebastien Haller, who has also scored twice in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers so far.

Haller will join the attack with the recent arrival of Burnley player Maxwell Cornet and Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe as the Elephants look to defeat Cameroon once again.

Serge Aurier is expected to take part in defense, with the former Tottenham Hotspur full-back as current Ivory Coast captain, while Eric Bailly will command the defensive line for Ivorians.

November 16, 2021 11:49 AM ET

News from Cameroon

The chances of a Cameroon upset will depend on whether their important players can perform at their best at key moments, with many of their hopes pinned on the shoulders of their great star Eric Choupo-Moting.

The Bayern Munich player has scored two goals in qualifying so far and, as captain, represents one of Cameroon's most experienced players.

Choupo-Moting's 60 international appearances for Cameroon are slightly close to the 75 for Vincent Aboubakar, who is currently the most capped player in the Indomitable Lions squad.

Devis Epassy will look to extend his impressive streak in goal for Cameroon, having held his goal without conceding so far in qualifying heading to Qatar 2022.

This is how the Cameroon arrives

A 4-1 win by Cameroon in 2014 remains their last win over Ivory Coast, making their task on Saturday a very difficult one.

The loss to Côte d'Ivoire in the first group match is the only time Cameroon have lost points, subsequently achieving back-to-back victories against Mozambique and Malawi helping to maintain their dreams of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

By the time Qatar 2022 rolls around, it will be eight years since the Indomitable Lions last appeared on the world stage, with a drop from their golden generation of the past. Cameroon qualified for seven World Cups in nine attempts between 1982 and 2014, and their best performance was reaching the quarter-finals at Italy 1990.

November 16, 2021 10:54 AM ET

This is how the Ivory Coast arrives

Cameroon and Ivory Coast, the top two teams from Group D clash tonight for group supremacy, as Malawi and Mozambique are eliminated, leaving this clash as the decisive showdown in the group.

Ivory Coast entered the international break at the top of the table, having been undefeated in their first four games so far. Their only problem in an otherwise perfect record was a goalless draw against Mozambique in the opening match of the second qualifying round.

A resounding victory against Cameroon in the first match between the two put Ivory Coast at the top of the group, where they have notched three wins in their next three matches.

If Cameroon is hopeful of defeating the group leaders and progressing to the third round, it will have to do something it has not achieved since 2014: beat Ivory Coast in an official match.

November 16, 2021 10:49 AM ET

The match will be played at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo

The Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo is a multipurpose stadium located in the city of Yaoundé, Cameroon. The stadium was inaugurated in 1972 to host one of the venues for the African Cup of Nations that year. The venue has a capacity for 38,000 people and is named after Ahmadou Ahidjo, the first president of Cameroon after the country's independence in 1960.

It is mainly used for soccer matches and athletic competitions, it is currently used by the two most important teams in the city, Canon Yaoundé and Tonerre Yaoundé, as well as being used as a stage for the matches of the Cameroon soccer team.

In 2005 an expansion was carried out to increase the capacity of the stadium to the current one. In 1988, Roger Milla played a match at this stadium with a selection of international players, due to his retirement.
