December 8, 2021 2:49 PM ET

RIVAL NEWS

Ulisses Garcia, who is coming off a calf injury, will not make tomorrow's game against Manchester United, while David von Ballmoos, Christian Fassnacht, Felix Mambibi, Jean-Pierre Nsame and Cédric Zesiger would also not travel to Old Trafford.

On the other hand, Wilfried Kanga is in doubt, but captain Fabian Lustenberger would keep his place in the starting roster after recovering from a serious injury.

Despite being at the bottom of Group F, the Swiss side still have a chance of qualifying for the Europa League. Therefore, Wednesday's match is expected to be very intense for both teams.

December 8, 2021 2:41 PM ET

HIS FIRST WORDS

"To be honest, I haven't made a decision yet, but it makes sense for us to rest some players, considering the number of games we will have to play in the coming weeks."

"We need to make sure we have adequate recovery. But on the other hand, we also need to keep this positive momentum going. We want to win games, even with new players."

December 8, 2021 2:41 PM ET

A NEW INTERIM

This Wednesday, the 63-year-old German will take charge of his second game as Manchester United's interim manager, when the team hosts Young Boys in the last match of the Champions League group stage.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. have already secured a place in the last 16 of this tournament, the coach will be looking for another win to keep the group performing well ahead of the challenges that lie ahead.

December 8, 2021 2:40 PM ET

HERE'S HOW YOUNG BOYS GET THERE!

Young Boys have been slumping since the end of October, and since then they have been unable to put in a single decent performance. Something has happened to this team, and even the national media can't explain it.

In the last 11 games, the Swiss champions have won twice, drawn three times and lost six times. The defense looks extremely pale, allowing two or more goals in seven games during this stretch, something a solid attack can't cover up.

Nine of the games in the aforementioned span were with both teams scoring, and seven with three or more hits. So, overall, Young Boys are playing effective and entertaining soccer.

THIS IS HOW MANCHESTER UNITED ARRIVES!

Manchester United began a new chapter in its long history on Sunday. Ralf Rangnick made his debut with a win, creating a positive atmosphere ahead of a very tough December schedule. It wasn't easy against Crystal Palace, but in the end the Red Devils won by the narrowest of margins, taking all three points.

Rangnick will have some injury problems ahead of this fixture, but that will not change his tactics or style of play. The German is likely to keep some players on the bench, because no team in this group can jeopardize their first place in the group.

The match against Palace was the fourth match in which they have not lost, and all of them took place after Solskajer's departure. During that period, United won three times and drew once, in London against Chelsea (1-1).

BEAUTIFUL POSTCARD!

This is what it looks like outside Old Trafford today for Manchester United vs Young Boys.

December 8, 2021 2:27 PM ET

CONTEXT

Manchester United secured their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, but they certainly don't want to lose to Young Boys on Wednesday.

The Red Devils still remember the first-round defeat in Bern. It was an unpleasant experience for Ronaldo and the boys, and the beginning of the end for Ole in Manchester. The Swiss side go to Trafford hoping to upset the favorites again, and will be hoping for positive news from Bergamo. If Atalanta lose and the Boys win in England, they will continue their international adventure in the Europa League.

December 8, 2021 2:22 PM ET

BSC YOUNG BOYS TEAM SUMMARY

Young Boys have fallen on hard times. In the national championship, the "yellow-blacks" allowed competitors to enter a solid gap, and there is a high probability that they will not achieve anything in European competitions either. David Wagner's brigade got into too difficult a group. So it is no wonder that so far they are at the bottom of the standings.

HERE'S HOW MACHESTER UNITED IS COMING OUT!

This is how Manchester United will line up at home and with their people to get the last victory of the group stage.

December 8, 2021 2:12 PM ET

MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM SUMMARY

For Manchester United, the winter part of the season started perfectly: first got the victory over Arsenal (3:2), and then defeated Crystal Palace (1:0). The change of coach has benefited the English club. However, it is far from a given that it will maintain stability in the long run. Ralph Rangnik has to do a lot of work, otherwise it is unlikely that his wards will satisfy the fans with impressive results. Only Cristiano Ronaldo justifies the expectations, but the rest of the players look weak against the background of the legendary Portuguese goalkeeper.

Watch out for this Manchester United player:

The best player in the world for his own and others, Lusitanian star, legend and idol of several clubs in Europe, Cristiano Ronaldo will be the player to follow for this match. Since his return to the club where he was born as a legend, the Portuguese player has played 806 minutes with the red devil's jersey, he has also appeared 10 times in the starting line-up, has scored 7 times so far this season and assisted once. He has also received 2 yellow cards and has not been sent off, so CR7 will be the player to watch for this match.

December 8, 2021 1:42 PM ET

Watch out for this Young Boys player:

Swiss center midfielder, Vicent Sierro, has been one of the most consistent players the Young Boys squad has had. Since his arrival in 2019 for the 2019/2020 season, the midfielder has featured 60 times as a starter, has scored on 5 occasions and assisted 4 times, also, he accumulates 11 yellow cards and only 1 sending off by way of double caution. Being one of the most creative players on the field, Vicent Sierro could become one of the most unbalanced players of the game and tip the balance in favor of the visitors.

Last Young Boys roster:

G, Faivre; S Lauper, N, Bürgy, U, Garcia, S, Hefti; V, Sierro, M, Aebischer, F, Rieder; C, Fassnacht, N, Ngamaleu, M, Elia.

December 8, 2021 1:27 PM ET

Background:

Manchester United and Young Boys have met on a total of three occasions (1 win for Young Boys and 2 wins for Manchester United), with the scales tipping slightly in favor of the Red Devils. Likewise, in terms of goals, it is the English team who has the advantage with 5 goals scored and Young Boys only 2. Their last meeting dates back to the first day of the UEFA Champions League where the Swiss team beat the English team by a score of 2-1.

December 8, 2021 1:22 PM ET

Refereeing quartet:

For this match, Craig Pawson will be the central referee, accompanied by Ian Hussin and Scott Ledger as assistants 1 and 2 respectively, and Michael Salisbury will be the fourth official. In the VAR, referees Michael Oliver and Dan Cook will be in charge of monitoring any dubious play inside the box or that merits a red card.

December 8, 2021 1:17 PM ET

They are looking for Europa League in a hurry

At the moment, Young Boys will be looking to get into the Europa League with a victory and the combination of results between the Villareal vs Atalanta duel. The Swiss are at the bottom of the group with 4 points from 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in the competition, however, they are still alive thanks to the agonizing draw against Atalanta last matchday. Likewise, they have 6 goals for and 11 goals against, a situation that leaves them with a -5 goal difference so this will be one of the kill or die duels for this team since in case of losing the duel or drawing, their performance in European competitions would end for the rest of the season.

December 8, 2021 1:12 PM ET

Securing the lead

At the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo and company are the leaders of group F in the Champions League with 10 points obtained so far in the tournament, with 3 wins, a draw and a loss at the beginning of the championship, they also average 10 goals scored and 7 goals conceded, resulting in a difference of 3. This is one of the tightest groups of the tournament as their pursuers have 3 points and the last one has 4 points, so a defeat could end up costing them the group leadership for this last stage of the tournament. Likewise, they have had a very difficult streak since they have suffered defeats in the Premier League that have distanced them from European positions and now they could take advantage to go up with a defeat in the Champions League.

The road to St. Petersburg continues

All great moments began in a dream and there are few lucky ones who can boast in their lives that they once held the Orejona in their arms and were named "kings of Europe". The dream resumes for 32 teams seeking to engrave their name in eternal glory, but to do so, they will have to overcome a long road full of obstacles to reach the main event, St. Petersburg, and have the honor of being crowned as the new champions of the old continent. In group "F", Manchester United will be looking to secure their leadership when they face Young Boys from Switzerland, a team that also has something at stake this matchday, because if they win, they would qualify for the Europa League provided that Atalanta does not win, it will certainly be a tough match in the theater of dreams.
