Rayados key player

Despite criticism for his low scoring rate in his call-up to the national team, Funes Mori stands out as the important man for Rayados with three goals in the last ten games.

Cruz Azul key player

Luis Romo has become the backbone of Cruz Azul and his great role in the midfield of La Máquina earned him a place in the National Team and during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games he revealed himself as one of the best Aztec players by being a factor in winning the bronze medal, even scoring goals. Luis knows that the title obtained in the Clausura 2021 is not enough and the goal is to obtain as many awards as possible during the campaign: "When the year begins, you set out what you can compete for and aspire to give everything. But we have already achieved our goal, which was to win the league, and we still have the Concachampions and the Campeones Cup. Winning everything would be something that has never been done in Mexico and we always think about making history, going forward".

Azteca Stadium

The match will be held at the Azteca Stadium and here are some essential facts about the building:

The Azteca Stadium is located in Mexico City, with capacity for 87,000 spectators, being the largest in Mexico, the third largest in America and the eleventh largest in the world. It was designed by architects Pedro Ramirez Vazquez and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca, and began its construction in 1962 as part of the project to host the 1970 World Cup.  It was inaugurated on May 29, 1966.

It is the only stadium that has hosted two FIFA World Cup finals, in Mexico 1970 and Mexico 1986. The first final saw the consecration of Pelé as the "king" of soccer, and the second saw the consolidation of Diego Armando Maradona as a historic figure of world football.

On Rayados' side, although they have just one defeat in Liga MX, the Monterrey fans are not so happy with the performance of 'Vasco' Aguirre and his team and this crucial match against Cruz Azul, which will serve as a prelude to the Clasico Regio. Los Rayados have not been able to win in four games. Monterrey will have a nearly full squad for Thursday's match, with the exception of Vincent Janssen, who is still recovering from pubalgia. Rayados will arrive at the Estadio Azteca with a slight advantage.

Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul has not had the best start to its title defense, with many problems in the squad due to injuries and players on loan to their national teams. Coach Reynoso has struggled with his squad and the results, so the match against Monterrey in the semifinal of the CONCACAF Champions League would be the perfect opportunity to get back on track. Cruz Azul will have to come back from a 1-0 deficit in the first leg at the BBVA, scored by Maximiliano Meza.
