Statement by Ralph Hassenhüttl (Southampton Coach)

Image: Getty Images
"I think for them [Chelsea] it is a very important game because they lost twice and I think it is unusual to have this situation. For us it is again a game against one of the top-six top teams in the league, the Champions League winners, who are a little bit under pressure after two times not winning. They will do everything to win this game because they have to.”

"We go there like every year with a lot of respect, but also believing in what we are doing and this is how we want to create another positive result at this ground".

There are not many grounds out there where we have never lost a game, but this is one of them. We have always felt good there and had very good games most of the time, to be honest,”

We know we need to take the first win; there’s always a chance to do it. If you want to be successful [vs Chelsea], you need everything to go right,”

Statement by Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea Coach)

Image: Getty Images
"I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family. There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation."

"He’s a very friendly [Ralph Hasenhüttl], very nice guy, very humble, very entertaining also, a very funny guy. The teams he trains have always the same philosophy. It’s high intensity, it’s very aggressive, it’s about ball recoveries and this is on a very high level".

"They [Southampton] have a very fast team, a very aggressive team, they had good results against both Manchester teams, so this is what we are expecting, a good team with a good coach and a nice guy, but that does not count for 90 minutes."

"We have developed some ideas and some solutions of course to deal with this high pressure. In general you need to be absolutely aware of it. You don’t have time to think when you’re on the ball, we need to anticipate situations, we need to be very good in the timing and distance of our passing, if we want to escape high pressure in our own half.

"It can also be a possibility to use long balls to escape high pressing, but then you need to have a good position before. The most important thing is that we are aware and that we don’t judge teams by their name or their ranking or their previous results, but we talk about what we see and their behaviour and we need to be aware of an aggressive and an intense team.

"We want to also have the answer to the pressing from Southampton with counter-pressing and to give them a taste of their own medicine, also because it is a part of our game."

Southampton want their first win of the season

The Saints have had a poor start to the season, having failed to record a single win. In addition, they are coming off a loss in their most recent match against Wolverhampton.

Being in 16th place in the table leaves a lot of worries for Ralph Hasenhüttl's side, who are only one point away from the relegation zone, so they want to taste a league win after almost five months.

Chelsea wants to keep fighting for the lead

The Blues are coming from a couple of setbacks, first when they lost at home to Manchester City the previous day in the league and then when they also lost to Juventus on matchday 2 of the Champions League.

Despite this, the team coached by Thomas Tuchel knows that they have enough material to get out of this little slump and get back on track in both tournaments, however, they must improve in many aspects, especially in attack to avoid headaches.
