Why is winning so important for Costa Rica?

Costa Rica simply cannot get up in the qualifiers and they know that if they do not do so, they will be saying goodbye very early to their aspirations to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, so far they have only gotten 1 point out of three possible and if they do not get three points, they would be sinking to the bottom of the octagonal.

Curious facts:

  • The Ticos have just three units in four matches, for a 25% performance, and occupy sixth place on the ladder. The Cuscatlecos have five, for 42%, good for fifth place.
  • In the last six qualifying rounds, no Concacaf team has reached a direct ticket to the World Cup with less than 46% performance in the final qualifying phase.
  • Costa Rica has not lost against El Salvador since 2009, when it lost 0-1 in the qualifiers for South Africa 2010. Since then, eight matches have taken place, of which three were Costa Rican victories and five were ties.

How is El Salvador coming along?

For its part, the 'Selecta' took a huge breath of fresh air by beating Panama 1-0 at home on Thursday; however, that was its first goal in the octogonal, a sign that sets off the red alert in the El Salvador team as it urgently needs to wake up on offense.
5:09 PM7 days ago

How is Costa Rica doing?

The Ticos are coming off a scoreless draw in Honduras, a result they celebrated for having played away. They also had a good chance of returning home with nothing in the bag, but Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas was once again the hero of his team.
However, the team of pure life is going through dark moments, with poor performance on the field, mainly in offense, and controversy off the field, with the recent resignation of two players from the squad (Manfred Ugalde, due to problems with coach Luis Fernando Suarez, and Giancarlo Gonzalez, for not being at a good level).

Watch out for this Costa Rican player:

The attacking midfielder from San Jose, Costa Rica, Bryan Ruiz, is one of the most decisive elements in matches of great importance, since his arrival to the national team, he has appeared in 134 games in the starting lineup, in 27 occasions he has broken the nets and only in 23 moments he has participated with an assist. After 10,196 minutes played and with the morale high for being one of the leading men of the Tico team, Ruiz could be the player who becomes the idol of the fans by scoring again and giving his name on the scoreboard and giving his team three golden points in this final octagonal of the CONCACAF.

Watch out for this player from El Salvador:

MLS soccer star and a wall down the Seattle Sounders' flank, Alex Roldan, is one of the most decisive players on the pitch for the El Salvador side. Since his arrival to the national team, the Salvadoran nationalized American has played 587 minutes, in which he has appeared 8 times in the starting lineup, scoring once. After playing the last game and being one of the important men in the national team so far, Roldán could be the one to put the balance in favor of the Honduran team at the beginning of the second round of the final octagonal of the CONCACAF.

To climb positions

Like their similar team, Costa Rica did not get off to a good start in the World Cup qualifiers after earning 2 out of 9 possible points in the first round of the final World Cup qualifiers, with two draws against Panama and Jamaica. However, when facing Mexico, they suffered a tough defeat at home, which puts them in an uncomfortable position in this resumption of the final octagonal stage. For this FIFA date, the Ticos will have to face El Salvador and the United States, after a goalless draw with Honduras, a result that forces them to get three points before it is too late.

4:14 PM7 days ago

They are looking for the ultimate fair

The national team of El Salvador dreams of entering the maximum fair of world soccer, however, they have not had the best start after having started the first round of the qualifiers with 2 defeats and 1 draw, also, they have already managed to add three points at the beginning of this day number 2, a result that places them in 5th place. To keep dreaming of achieving their goal, they will have to face Costa Rica, a team that has not had the dream start but has a large squad to surprise everyone.

4:09 PM7 days ago

The road to the World Cup continues

The road to Qatar 2022 resumes in CONCACAF, after the FIFA date in September, the teams will once again have to bring together their best players to continue the journey of the final octagonal and look for a ticket to the greatest soccer event: the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Both teams are in need of points as they are not currently in a beneficial position to continue thinking about the World Cup dream, so winning, drawing or losing could mean a huge difference between being out of the goal or not.
