Burnley Panorama!

Burnley will be desperate to get off the mark as they approach the quarter-final stage of another season in which their primary aim is to stay in the top flight, but they too have had a relatively difficult start.

Like Southampton, six of their eight games have been against teams that finished in the top half last season, including away games against Liverpool and Manchester City, a factor that has contributed to their joint lowest league tally of just one away point, so far.

The team is now on the longest winless streak in the top four tiers of English soccer, stretching back to 11 games, although there are signs that an opening win could be just around the corner.

8:23 AMa month ago

Sothampton's outlook!

Southampton's win over Leeds last Saturday would have been a significant weight off Ralph Hasenhuttl's shoulders, although he will know that the value of that first victory could be undermined if they fail to back it up against Burnley.

It has not been an easy start to the season for Saints, with six of their eight games so far coming against teams that finished in the top half in 2020-21, and a home draw against out-of-form Burnley represents their easiest test on paper so far.
The win over Leeds also left them with two clean sheets in their last three home league outings, having failed to keep any in their previous 11, and their defensive record is now the best of any team in the bottom half.

Watch out for this Burnley player:

From England to the world, Nick Pope will be the player to watch for this match. From 2016 onwards, the Englishman has played 10,044 minutes with the vinotinto jersey in which he has become an authentic reference under the three posts with 133 saves and 39 clean sheets, he also has 112 appearances in Burnley's starting lineup. Also, on 5 occasions he has received the yellow card and only once he was sent off with a straight red card, Pope could be the unbalancing factor that puts the balance in favor of the visiting team.

11:22 AM2 months ago

Watch out for this Southampton player:

Armando Broja has become one of the fundamental pieces that Dyche has, the right back has gone from strength to strength since his arrival in the Premier League being an undisputed starter and increasing his value in the transfer market. At the moment he has 319 minutes played with Southampton, he has appeared 7 times in the starting lineup and has scored on 3 occasions, however, so far he still has not achieved his first assist with the celestial team. Likewise, he is in high spirits after helping his team to win last week's match, so Armando Broja will be the player to watch for this game.

Background:

Saints and Vinotintos have met a total of 62 times (22 wins for Southampton, 17 draws and 23 wins for Burnley) with the scales tipping slightly in favor of Sean Dyche's side. In terms of goals, both teams are very evenly matched, with 88 goals scored each. Their last meeting dates back to matchday 30 of the 2020-21 season where Burnley lost to Southampton by a score of 3-2 at St Mary's Stadium.
11:02 AM2 months ago

Refereeing team:

For this match, Anthony Taylor will be the central referee, accompanied by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn as assistants 1 and 2 respectively, and Craig Pawson will be the fourth referee. In the VAR, referees Stuart Attwell and Constantine Hatzidakis will be in charge of monitoring any dubious play inside the box or that merits a red card.

Difficult but not impossible

On the other hand, Burnley are at the bottom of the table with 3 points, which places them in 18th place overall, product of 3 draws and 5 defeats so far this season, however, despite the bad results obtained at the beginning of the season, they are not sunk in the last place as Newcastle and Norwich are the ones who are below them and at risk of going to the silver division. With a win they could move up places and gradually move away from the relegation drama zone.
10:52 AM2 months ago

They want to climb positions

The Saints have had an irregular start to the tournament with 1 win, 4 draws and three defeats, which keeps them with 7 points out of a possible 27 in 15th place overall, however, they were not the only ones who started the championship with an irregular intensity, as Watford, Crystal Palace and Arsenal have managed to climb positions so far in the Premier League campaign. Likewise, they are in high spirits as in the last game they managed to score a victory after beating Leeds United by the minimum difference.

A duel of different realities

The ninth date of the Premier League will bring us a clash of realities when Southampton receives Burnley at St Mary's Stadium. On the one hand, the pupils led by Ralph Hasenhüttl are in the fifteenth place of the Premier League with 7 points, however, the tight competition in the middle of the table against Crystal Palace or Arsenal keeps them in the expectation. On the other side, Burnley are in 18th position with 3 points so far this season and have only managed to get a draw, so facing Southampton will be a difficult but not impossible mission.
