Summary of the first half

It was an even 'Le Classique'. Marseille started intense and attacking. PSG gradually began to take the ball and generate danger with Dembélé and Mbappé in a couple. Fabian Ruiz missed the clearest chance at the start. Jean-Louis Gasset's men were tidy and waiting to counterattack. Luis Enrique was down a player, Lucas Beraldo was shown a straight red card, and the Asturian will have to adjust in defense.

Zlatan, PSG's top scorer

Watch out for these players

Kyliam Mbappé is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 24 goals; for the moment, it seems that no one could take the lead away from him, as his closest competitor, Jonathan David, has 15 goals.

But Olympique also has its top scorer, not compared in numbers with the Frenchman, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can offer other things and has enough experience to lead his team. The Gabonese is tied with Dembélé as the top assisters in the league with 7.

Injured

Ahead of the French derby, Paris have reported that Bradley Barcola is suffering from a left femoral biceps injury and is undergoing recovery exercises. Meanwhile, Presnel Kimpembe continues with his recovery exercises.

A sudden turn?

Despite the fact that it has already been reported that Kylian Mbappé will not continue with PSG for next season, Luis Enrique left it open that the French footballer will continue in the French capital. Speaking ahead of "Le Classique," the Spanish coach noted that he remains "hopeful that he will change his mind."
"Why is it going to be his last game? I remain hopeful that Kylian will change his mind," said the Asturian.
This issue has already been seen repeatedly between the club and the player. Luis Enrique only says. "Imagine that we win the four titles this season and Kylian decides to change at the last moment. That his place is in Paris - why not, we'll see."

Parisian hegemony

The Parisians have shown a hegemony over Marseille in recent years. Of the last 10 league and cup games, 7 have been wins for Paris Saint-Germain and 2 for Olympique de Marseille; one ended in a draw.
In the first leg of the season, the match ended in a 4-0 thrashing for the capital's side; Hakimi, Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos with a brace, were the main protagonists of the last derby.
In PSG's last visit to the Vélodrome, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi stole the spotlight in the Clasico.

The differences between Marseillaise and Parisians

In 'Le Classique', PSG and Olympique de Marseille represent the two most important cities in France, however, both have a number of differences that make them rivals. One represents the Gallic capital, while the other a provincial capital.
It is a struggle between north and south where today Paris is related to the privileged class of France, while Marseille to the working class; being ironic, because the origins of both institutions were the opposite of what is shown.

Paris Saint-Germain: the Champions League objective

The Parisian team is on track to win Ligue 1. At the moment they are 10 points ahead of second place AS Monaco. A victory this Sunday in the derby could help Luis Enrique's team to be calm and better prepared to face the Champions League quarterfinals against Barcelona on April 10 and 16.
The team from the French capital has not lost an official match in any competition since last November 7, when they lost 2-1 away against Milan in the Champions League. In Ligue 1, they have not lost since September 15, 2023 against Nice by a score of 3-2.
In recent days, the Spanish coach told a press conference that "the favorites are at the other end of the table"; a timely strategy to take the pressure off his players.

Olympique de Marseille: in the hunt for European places

The Marseille team is experiencing its best moment of the season after the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset. The Montpellier-born coach has meant a resurgence for the team from the north of France, which was ninth in the standings with 22 points after the departure of Genaro Gattuso.
Today Olympique de Marseille are seventh with 39 points, and are 3 points behind Lens in sixth place; however, they could go further up the table if they get back on a winning streak.
Jean-Louis Gasset did not arrive with good eyes to his country's team, but with a series of consecutive victories against Shakhtar and Villarreal in Europa League, Montpellier, Clermont and Nantes in Ligue 1, the former coach of Ivory Coast, left everyone skeptical and with a Marseille fan who is excited to advance in Europa League and recover the points lost on the way to get into European qualification positions.
