Wolfsburg News

The 2-0 away win at the weekend in Leverkusen will give Wolfsburg some confidence going into this match, as they ended a poor run of 8 games without a win in all competitions.
However, Florian Kohfeldt is still without some of his key players. Mehmedi, Roussillion, Schalger, Waldschmidt and Weghorst are weeks away from full fitness.

November 2, 2021 1:07 PM ET

Statistics of both clubs

This is Wolfsburg's second meeting with a club from Austria. The previous one was against Sturm Graz in 2005, a 2-2 draw at home followed by a sublime 3-1 win in the second leg.

Salzburg had a total of 17 meetings with German Bundesliga clubs and have a decent record of 6 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats. However, they have only won 2 out of 8 on German soil, drawn 1 and lost 8.

November 2, 2021 1:04 PM ET

Here's how Salzburg arrives

Salzburg came out on top when these two met on matchday 3 and this sent them to the top of the group. They currently have 7 points and this is a 4 point cushion over second placed Sevilla, with third and fourth placed Lille and Wolfsburg locked at 2 points.

November 2, 2021 1:03 PM ET

You are not alone!

The Red Bull Salzburg fans are present in the vicinity of the Volkswagen Arena to support their team in their quest for a win that could mean qualification to the next round.

November 2, 2021 1:00 PM ET

Wolfsburg's roster is ready!

This is how the green team will take the field to face Salzburg, the locals are obliged to go for the three points.

November 2, 2021 12:53 PM ET

This is how Wolfsburg arrives!

Unable to keep the positive start on his side to proceedings as colder temperatures set in, Mark van Bommel departed Wolfsburg to make way for new blood in Florian Kohfeldt, whose appointment raised a few eyebrows given his previous stint.
Draws with Sevilla and Lille preceded that 3-1 loss to Salzburg for Wolfsburg, who occupy fourth place in Group G, but the tight nature of the table sees second-placed Sevilla sit just a point above their counterparts, who could blow the race for the top two wide open with all three points here.

Today could be the day that brings changes for the Wolves as a win could see them move into the qualification places and out of the slump they are going through.

Watch out for this Salzburg player:

The Austrian power will be present in this duel with the presence on the field of the Austrian nationalized Junior Adamu and he will be the player to follow for this match, since his arrival to the Bulls in 2020 he has played only 724 minutes in which he has appeared 19 times in the starting roster, he has also scored 4 times and assisted only 3 times. At 20 years of age and still with a lot of time on his side, the Austrian could tip the scales in favor of the visitors at any time as he is always a latent goal threat every time the right-sided killer touches the ball.

November 1, 2021 2:20 PM ET

Watch out for this Wolfsburg player:

A young promise from France and considered one of the best central defenders last season, Maxence Lacroix, will be the player to follow for this match, since his arrival in 2020 with the German side he has played 3,519 minutes, in which he has appeared 41 times in the starting roster, has scored only 2 goals and has collaborated in 1 goal for the Wolfsburg team. Likewise, he has 9 yellow cards and no expulsion so far in his career, the current Wolfsburg center back could tip the balance in favor of the Teutonic team at any moment due to the fact that he has become a real wall in the defensive zone.

November 1, 2021 2:15 PM ET

Last Salzburg roster:

P. Köhn; J. Onguéné, B. Aaronson, N. Seiwald, A. Ulmer; M. Camara, L. Sučić, K. Adeyemi, M. Wöber; R. Kristensen, N. Okafor.

November 1, 2021 2:10 PM ET

Wolfsburg's last line-up:

K. Casteels; Y. Gerhardt, S. Bornauw, M. Lacroix, B. Baku; M. Arnold, J. Guilavogui; L. Waldschmidt, M. Phillipp, L. Nmecha; W. Weghorst.

November 1, 2021 2:05 PM ET

Background:

Wolfsburg and Salzburg have met on a total of 39 occasions (5 wins for the Wolves, 12 draws and 22 wins for the Austrian bulls) with the Austrian side winning by a wide margin. Likewise, in terms of goals scored, it is the Toros who have the advantage, with 87 goals scored over the home side, who have scored just 36. Their last meeting was in the last Champions League matchday, when the visitors won 3-1 against the home side.

November 1, 2021 2:00 PM ET

Refereeing team:

For this match, Craig Pawson will be the central referee, accompanied by Ian Hussin and Scott Ledger as assistants 1 and 2 respectively, and Michael Salisbury will be the fourth official. In the VAR, referees Michael Oliver and Dan Cook will be in charge of monitoring any dubious play inside the box or that merits a red card.

November 1, 2021 1:55 PM ET

In search of further transcendence

The Salzburg team is looking to keep on giving something to talk about so far in the UEFA Champions League, at the moment they are at the top of Group G ahead of Sevilla, who is their closest pursuer with three points. The team coached by Matthias Jaissle has obtained 7 points so far in the competition, which have come from 2 wins and 1 draw. This will be a very important match for the Austrian team, as if they manage to get out of enemy territory with a victory, they could be securing their qualification to the round of 16 of the European Champions League.

November 1, 2021 1:50 PM ET

They want to stay alive

The Teutonic team wants to stay ain this edition of the UEFA Champions League, so far the team coached by Florian Kohfeldt has 2 points from 2 draws and a defeat, and is currently in last place in Group G behind Lille, a team that has not had a good performance so far in the competition. Just two weeks ago, it was the Salzburg team that defeated the wolves by a score of 3-1, so now it will be up to the green-and-white team to avenge that defeat and spice up their group. Wolfsburg are also coming from a victory against Bayer Leverkusen and are currently in 7th place in the Bundesliga, so there is a good chance that the German team will win this time.

The road to St. Petersburg continues

All great moments began in a dream and there are few lucky ones who can boast in their lives that they once held the Orejona in their arms and were named "kings of Europe". The dream resumes for 32 teams seeking to engrave their name in eternal glory, but to do so, they will have to overcome a long road full of obstacles to reach the main event, St. Petersburg, and have the honor of being crowned as the new champions of the old continent. In Group "G", Wolfsburg will host group leaders Salzburg, who are looking to secure their qualification to the next stage of the tournament once and for all, but the Germans need a win if they want to stay alive.
