FC SALZBURG TEAM SUMMARY

Salzburg had a great start in the Champions League. In the first round they drew with Sevilla, although they had every chance to win 1-1. Six points in the matches with Lille and Wolfsburg consolidated the team in first place. However, in the last round they were forced to slow down, losing to Wolfsburg in the first leg 1-2. However, this did not affect the leadership in the group.

LOSC LILLE TEAM SUMMARY

In the first round, Lille drew 0-0 with Wolfsburg, then lost to Salzburg, registering in the Outsiders of the group. But the situation changed after two duels with Sevilla. In the home match, again on the scoreboard remained scorched zeros, and at the start, the French won unexpectedly. And they lost already in the 15th minute, but were able to recover and come through 2-1.

What happened last time

The only face-to-face meeting between the teams took place in September, as part of the first round of the Champions League group stage. Then the match was pretty much the same. However, Salzburg twice received the right to hit from the 11-meter mark, which happens infrequently. The penalty did not miss and Lille only managed one goal in the middle of the second half.

Salzburg's outlook!

Red Bull Salzburg can secure their qualification in this match. The Austrian team leads this group with 7 points, two more than Lille and Wolfsburg, who come in third place.
Regardless of the result of the other match, winning the 3 points in this match ensures in advance their qualification for the round of 16, but losing this match may even cause them to drop out of the qualification zone. Thus, we should not see an exposed team playing in France. They have a good offensive volume, an attack with good mobility, but they have a great capacity in their transitions and these should be their main weapon.

Away they lost last time out to Wolfsburg, 2-1, and before that they drew 1-1 with Sevilla.

In both matches they had more ball possession, but suffered from the reactive play of their opponents. Considering that they will be deciding at home in the next round, perhaps this more dominant strategy is a problem, as they are more exposed.

Lille's outlook!

For Lille, this match can have positive or catastrophic effects. Second-placed with 5 points, they have two points less than Red Bull Salzburg itself, so winning this match puts the team at the top of the table and with an advantage in the last round to ensure qualification.
The French team has been presenting a huge pragmatism, and mainly when they need to be more proactive, they end up suffering, as they do not have a capacity to dominate in possession and high lines, but a verticality when they can play in transition. With this model of play, their only victory was against Sevilla, precisely away, where they have the possibility to play more vertically, with lower lines and taking advantage of the defensive instability of a team that also has construction difficulties.
At home they drew both matches, against Wolfsburg and Sevilla, both times without goals, reinforcing this difficulty of offensive construction, few spaces for transitions, and as a rule their matches with a strong tendency to a low goal line, due to their proposal and the strategies of their opponents who as a rule also play in a more reactive way.

THE WAIT IS OVER!

The wait is over after two weeks, today the UEFA Champions League returns with the duel between Lille and Salzburg from France. The Dogues' team needs to go for the victory if they want to qualify to the round of 16, however, in case of a draw or a loss, they will have to depend on the result of the match between Sevilla and Wolfsburg to know how their outlook will be for the last matchday of the group stage.

Watch out for this Salzburg player:

Austrian power will be present in this duel with the presence on the field of Austrian nationalized Junior Adamu and he will be the player to follow for this match, since his arrival to the Bulls in 2020 he has played only 724 minutes in which he has appeared 19 times in the starting roster, he has also scored in 4 times and assisted only 3 times. At 20 years of age and still with a lot of time under his belt, the Austrian could tip the scales in favor of the visitors at any time as he is always a latent goal threat every time the right-sided killer touches the ball.

Watch out for this Lille player:

Burak Yilmaz became the hero of the Lille fans since his arrival as he has not only become an important player, but he was one of the factors for Lille to become champions last season and he will be the player to watch for this match, since his arrival to the Gallic ground he has played only 2,506 minutes in which he has appeared 33 times in the starting roster, he has also scored 19 times and assisted only 5 times. At 36 years old, his retirement may be near and what better way to do it than winning a Champions League with the team that opened the doors for him in the final chapter of his long career, the Turk could tip the scales in favor of the French at any time because he is always a latent goal threat every time the Turkish star touches the ball.

Background:

Lille and Salzburg have only met on one occasion in their entire history in European competition. On that occasion, it was the Austrian side who won 2-1. The scorers in that match were Karim Adeyemi for the Bulls and Burak Yilmaz, who scored from the penalty spot. Also, the home side averaged 46% possession and the visitors 53%, with a total of 8 corners and 22 shots on goal.

In search of further transcendence

The Salzburg team is looking to keep on giving something to talk about so far in the UEFA Champions League, at the moment they are at the top of Group G ahead of Lille, who is their closest pursuer with five points. The team coached by Matthias Jaissle has obtained 7 points so far in the competition, which have come from 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. Last Champions League matchday they suffered a tough defeat against Wolfsburg as visitors, so for this match it will be important not to fail and to leave France with at least a point. This will be a very important match for the Austrian team, because if they manage to get a victory in enemy territory, they could be securing their qualification to the round of 16 of the European Champions League.

Looking to secure qualification

The French team wants to stay ain this edition of the UEFA Champions League, so far the team coached by Jocelyn Gourvennec has 5 points from 2 draws, one win and one defeat. They are currently in second place in Group G behind Salzburg, a team that has also performed well so far in the competition. Just two weeks ago, the outlook changed completely for the Dogues as, from being in second last place in the group and with little chance of qualifying, they are now just one win away from securing a place at least in the next round of the Europa League in the worst-case scenario. Also, Lille are coming off a hard-fought draw against Monaco and are currently in 12th place in Ligue 1, so there is a good chance that the home side will win this one.

The road to St. Petersburg continues

All great moments began in a dream and there are few lucky ones who can boast in their lives that they once held the Orejona in their arms and were named "kings of Europe". The dream resumes for 32 teams seeking to engrave their name in eternal glory, but to do so, they will have to overcome a long road full of obstacles to reach the main event, St. Petersburg, and have the honor of being crowned as the new champions of the old continent. In Group "G", Lille will host group leaders Salzburg, who are looking to secure their qualification to the next stage of the tournament once and for all, but the French side need a win if they are to secure qualification to the Europa League.
