Although both teams are out of the running to advance to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, the chance to remain in continental competition is at stake when Malmö hosts Zenit St Petersburg tonight at Eleda Stadion.

The Swedish Champion must win to stay in contention for a place in the UEFA Europa League, while their Russian counterparts can secure third place in Group H with one point.

Zenit striker Artem Dzyuba, who scored a hat-trick on Friday, had found the net in six straight league games before going blank at Ural, making him the club's top scorer in the Russian league this season with 10 goals, three more than Zenit Sardar Azmoun, who scored in Iran's two wins in qualifying for the World Cup. The all-time top scorer in the Russian Premier League should start as a starting striker tonight.

Coach Sergei Semak will be without Daler Kuzyaev due to a muscle problem, while goalkeeper Stanislav Kritsyuk has been out of action since the second loss to Juventus. Therefore, Mikhail Kerzhakov is expected to start as a starter for this match.

Ahead of the penultimate match of the UEFA Champions League group stage, Malmö manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has to deal with various injuries to his team.

Erdal Rakip missed the final qualifying matches for the North Macedonia World Cup due to a knee problem, which also kept the midfielder out of the weekend's game. Captain Andreas Christiansen was also forced to retire in the win in Gothenburg earlier this month and is still out of the game with a hamstring injury, so he is not expected to make an appearance until the trip of the next month to Turin.

Jonas Knudsen is long absent for the home side, who can line up in a 3-5-2 formation led by Croatian striker Antonio Colak on the attacking front. Meanwhile, Veljko Birmancevic is the man most likely to replace Rakip.

The first meeting between these teams, on matchday two, was also Zenit's first official match against a Swedish club. The Saint Petersburg team achieved their biggest victory in the UEFA Champions League with a resounding 4-0.

When the Russian champions meet their Swedish counterparts on Tuesday, they will seek third place from Group H to advance to the Europa League, Zenit only need to secure one point, but their recent and uneven form suggests such a result cannot be guaranteed. They have lost nine of their last 11 matches in Europe's elite club competition, finishing last in their group in the past two seasons.

Sergei Semak's team may once again top the Russian league standings and claim their fourth consecutive national championship, but they have lost four of their last eight starts in all competitions. Since the beginning of November, Zenit have been beaten twice by Group H leaders Juventus, then beat Nizhny Novgorod 5-1 last weekend.

Malmö returned to the UEFA Champions League after six years out of the tournament, after claiming their 21st Swedish championship. They are currently at the top nationally as well, as they continue to battle Stockholm's Djurgården for the Swedish title.

The two consecutive defeats against Chelsea in recent weeks buried Malmö's hopes of defying the odds and reaching the knockout stages of the top club tournament, as they find themselves at the bottom of Group H without a point or a goal.

Since that loss at Eleda Stadion, Jon Dahl Tomasson's team appears to have regained confidence by beating IFK Gothenburg on the road, before drawing 2-2 at Hacken on Saturday. However, they will have to keep improving if they want to score their first point and score their first goal in the group stage, against Zenit who already beat them in St. Petersburg.

The Eleda Stadion is a football stadium in Malmö, Sweden and is the home of the Allsvenskan Malmö Fotbollförening football club: Malmö FF. In UEFA competitions, the stadium is known as Malmö New Stadium for sponsorship reasons. It opened in April 2009 and replaced Malmö Stadion, where Malmö FF had been playing since 1958.

In league matches, the stadium has a capacity of 24,000 spectators, of which 18,000 are seated and 6,000 standing. At European matches, the 6,000 standing seats are converted into 3,000 seats, bringing the stadium's capacity to 21,000 seated spectators.

The stadium is category 4 according to UEFA classification and is therefore capable of hosting matches from European competitions.
