The road to the quarterfinals

After two days of the Arab Cup 2021, four teams have already reserved their places in the knockout phase of the tournament. All eyes will be on the third and final day, in which the other half of the cast of participants in the quarterfinals will be decided, and which concludes this Tuesday night.

Qatar, the organizing country, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt already have their tickets to the next round. While Lebanon and Sudan are eliminated from the contest, after registering two defeats in Group D.

Qatar is already qualified, after two consecutive victories, and the other three teams are still in contention for second place. Bahrain or Oman will secure their place in the quarterfinals with a victory as long as Iraq does not beat Qatar.

A long-standing rivalry continues

The Oman vs Bahrain is the oldest rivalry duel between the participants of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, as these two combined have seen each other no less than 40 times. Records show that there is not much difference between them, as Bahrain has won 12 of those matches, just one more than Oman, and the remaining 17 ended in a draw.

Bahrain's last win over Oman came eleven years ago, at the 2010 West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship, when a brace by Ismaeel Abdullatif, also known as Samaa, allowed their team to emerge victorious. We will see if tonight in Al Rayyan the experienced forward will be able to reissue that feat and lead his country to the quarterfinals.

Group A will be defined

This Monday the fifth day of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup will be played, which promises great emotion and drama in each of the games. The group stage of the tournament is coming to an end and the last matches will decide the 3 teams from Groups A and B that will accompany the host country to the quarterfinals.

Everything is yet to be decided, since all retain possibilities. In Group A, Iraq, Oman and Bahrain aspire to accompany Qatar, which has already qualified for the next round, in the knockout phase, while the competition for the two qualifying places in Group B also continues to be intense.

Who will be the referee and his assistants?

At the time of this publication, the official FIFA website has not updated the information on the referees appointed for this game. We will update later.

The match will be played at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, popularly known as Al-Rayyan Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, which is home to Al-Rayyan Sports Club and Al-Kharitiyath Sports Club. The stadium, built in 2003, had a capacity for 21,282 spectators and was demolished in 2015. The new stadium was built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has a capacity for 40,740 spectators.

The renovation includes a huge 'media facade' with a membrane that will act as a screen for projections, news, commercials, sports updates, current tournament information and matches. The stadium inauguration took place on December 18, 2020, which was Qatar's National Day, and was used for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
