Jordan

Before the start of the game, the Jordanian players held the jersey with the number 9 number. It was a tribute to their forward and captain Baha Faisal, who had to leave in the 15th minute of his defeat against Morocco for what later turned out to be a cruciate ligament injury. If Faisal was moved by that gesture of solidarity, what came later surely made him vibrate with joy.

In the absence of the captain, the inspiration came from another of the team's talismans. When Hamza Al Daradreh transformed Yaseen Bakheet's center to make it 2-0 on the scoreboard, he not only calmed Jordan's nerves, he also became the top scorer in his country's history with 32 goals.

Al Daradreh rose to prominence at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, where he was the most prolific of his team with four goals, all of them in the same match, curiously also against Palestine.

This is how the teams arrive

Egypt and Jordan meet in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup quarter-finals for a spot in the Semifinals.

The Pharaohs won Group D ahead of Algeria, on the fair play point system, with the teams finishing tied for everything after three games. After two consecutive victories in their opening games, Carlos Queiroz's team held the Zorros del Desierto 1-1, courtesy of a second-half penalty from Amr El Solia.

Jordan, for its part, has managed to get here after negotiating a group with the best weapons such as Morocco and Saudi Arabia. A 4-0 loss to Morocco on Matchday 2 jeopardized their hopes of qualifying, but Chivalrous responded with a 5-1 win by Palestine on the final matchday of the group stage.

Queiroz vs Hamad

This Quarterfinal match will will revive an ancient rivalry between the respective national coaches, Carlos Queiroz and Adnan Hamad. The two have previously met in a couple of friendlies.

Their first duel took place in February 2012, when Queiroz was the coach of the Iranian team and Hamad held the reins of the Jordanian team, a match that ended with a 2-2 draw. In May of that same year they met again, and the match concluded with a goalless draw.

Egypt arrives with important absences

Egypt's draw against Algeria on Tuesday took a heavy toll on the Pharaohs' squad as their two starting central defenders, Ayman Ashraf and Ahmed Hegazy, were injured and will miss tonight's momentous clash with Jordan.

They are two of the most important Egyptian players present at this Arab Cup, especially the defensive leader who is Ahmed Hegazy, in whom coach Carlos Queiroz has placed all his trust in this tournament.

For the pass to the Semifinals of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021

Jordan became the eighth and final team to qualify for the 2021 Arab Cup quarter-finals after a 5-1 win over Palestine and a previous 1-0 win against Saudi Arabia, to finish second in Group C behind Morocco.

While Egypt finished first in Group D and earned the right to face Jordan after finishing tied with Algeria in each and every metric, points, goal difference, goals scored, except Fair Play points. Thus, a yellow card that El Arabi Soudani received tipped the balance on the side of the Pharaohs, and four minutes later, the expulsion of Yacine Titraoui ended with a denouement that few would have imagined at the beginning of the tournament.

The match will be played at Al Janoub Stadium

Al Janoub Stadium is located in the city of Al Wakrah in Qatar. The inspiration for the design is the sails of the Dhow boats that move through the currents of the Persian Gulf. It was inaugurated on May 16, 2019 during the final of the Qatar Emir Cup between Al Sadd SC and Al-Duhail SC and will be one of the venues for the 2022 Soccer World Cup

The stadium has a soccer field and a running track. It is currently the home of the Al-Wakrah SC football club and various matches of the Qatar Football League are played. It seats 40,000 people and features a 1,400-piece retractable roof that is accompanied by a cooling system to cool the spectator areas and the playing field.
