He is hopeful
Souček is hopeful this duel will be different after their performance in the last match where they played the second 45 minutes with ten men:
"We lost a man and still had an equalizer in the second half, so we have a very good chance. but we have to be confident and mentally ready for the game."
Top scorer of the season
Lyon striker Karl Toko Ekambi, who swapped Braga for Porto in January, leads the top scorer ranking, which remained unchanged after the first leg of the quarter-final matches. He has also provided two assists, two less than Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, Braga's Ricardo Horta and Filip Kostić, who provided his fourth assist in his team's 1-1 draw against Barcelona, having scored six goals so far.
Regretting the draw
The draw in London looks like a good result, but the French returned regretting that they could have got a better result after failing to take advantage of having an extra player on the field. "If you play against ten, it's normal to win," admitted coach Peter Bosz.
Without their key player
The dismissal of full-back Aaron Cresswell leaves the Hammers without a key player for the comeback, and although they showed spirit, manager David Moyes was less than impressed with his side's performance when down to 10 men. Meanwhile, goalscorer Jarrod Bowen is hoping for a more fluent performance from his side in France:
"We didn't play our best game, but we created chances. We'll improve our level and be more dangerous in the second leg".
Away goals eliminated
The away goals rule was applied to determine the winner of a playoff, in cases where the two teams had scored the same number of goals in the two matches overall.
With the decision to eliminate this rule, the playoffs in which the two teams score the same number of goals in the two matches, will be played a 30-minute extra time at the end of the second leg and if not resolved will go to penalties.
Important absences
According to the French club, Portuguese Lopes will be replaced by Julian Pollersbeck, while the absence of Brazilian Paqueta will be compensated by the return of Houssem Aouar and Tanguy Ndombélé.
The contribution of attackers Moussa Dembélé and Karl Toko Ekambi will be vital to the team's aspirations to reach the semifinals.
From war to victory
Mateus Martins Tete, released from Shakhtar Donetsk because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and recruited by Lyon, gave the victory against Angers (3-2), in his debut as a player in Ligue 1.
The Brazilian, who fled the war in which Ukraine is immersed, was presented a few days ago as a reinforcement. It only took him three minutes on the pitch to score and give the victory to his new team.
List of dates
The semifinals already have a date, the first leg will be played on April 28 and the second leg of the semifinals will be played on May 5. The winner of Lyon vs West Ham will face the winner of Eintracht vs Barcelona.
