As the curtain closed on Philadelphia's season at the end of October, it was evident that many questions would begin to be asked about the future of the "Class of 2015" so to speak. Between underperforming college draftees, aging MLS stalwarts and expensive, underperforming loanees, it was evident that changes had to be made for Philadelphia ahead of the 2016 season if they have any chance of making the playoffs.

For many it was unclear what to make of the start of the "Earnie Stewart Era," aside from a degree of optimism not felt by Union fans in quite some time. It's still questioned whether Stewart is running the show or not, given his official arrival date being pinned as January. That  being said, here's a summary of the ins and outs for the Philadelphia Union so far this offseason.

Ins:

Chris Pontius- Midfield

Previous Team: DC United

Acquired for Allocation Money.

Brian Carroll- Midfield

Previous Team: Philadelphia Union

Carroll's contract was renewed following his option being declined.

Outs:

Cristian Maidana- Midfield

New Team: Houston Dynamo

The Union received the #6 overall draft pick in the SuperDraft, as well as Allocation and targeted Allocation Money.

Andrew Wenger- Midfield

New Team: Houston Dynamo (See above deal).

Fred- Midfield

New Team: N/A. (Option Declined)

Fred will be entered into the Re-Entry Draft on December 11th.

Warren Creavalle- Midfield

New Team: N/A (Option Declined)

Creavalle will be entered into the Re-Entry Draft on December 11th.

Danny Cruz-  Midfield

New Team: Bodø/Glimt

Cruz will remain in Norway, however his MLS rights are up for grabs in the Re-Entry Draft should he return to MLS.

Antoine Hoppenot- Forward

New Team N/A (Out of Contract)

While the Frenchman's contract ran out rather than having his option declined, he'll likely be entered into the Re-Entry Draft because he doesn't meet the requirements for Free Agency.

Zac MacMath- Goalkeeper

New Team: N/A (Option Declined)

The Colorado Rapids choose not to activate the clause in MacMath's contract to acquire him permanently following his loan. MacMath will be entered into the Re-Entry Draft on December 11th.

Conor Casey- Forward

New Team: N/A (Option Declined)

Casey is the one Union player to benefit from the newly formed free agent rule. Despite citing a desire to remain with the Union, coach Jim Curtin explained a wage simply couldn't be negotiated that would be agreed upon by both sides.

Steven Vitoria- Defender

New Team: Benfica

The much maligned, injury prone center back returns to parent club Benfica after the Union decided not to purchase him outright.

Ethan White- Defender

New Team: N/A (Option Declined)

While not made official by MLS sources, several newspapers have confirmed the fact that White has had his option declined. He'll be entered into the Re-Entry Draft on December 11th.

*Note any player eligible for the Re-Entry Draft may pull out should his current club decide to re-negotiate a deal with different terms.

While the exits far outweigh the entrances, Union fans shouldn't panic with the official start of "silly season," aka the winter transfer window that's not official until the first of January, the Re-Entry Draft on December 11th and 17th, and the SuperDraft (college) on January 14th. Earnie Stewart will have plenty of opportunities to work his magic and rebuild this team, seemingly from the ground up.
