FC Dallas come back in the second period of extra time to steal the win away from the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open. Both goals came off of corners as Matt Hedges and Victor Ulloa play spoilers at the StubHub Center on Wednesday night.

Dull 90 minutes leads to exciting extra time

Following a lull in the beginning stages of the match, Mike Magee came away with the first shot on target. He was fed by Emmanuel Boateng but shot straight at the FC Dallas goalkeeper, Chris Seitz.

Then, FC Dallas started to take control and had a few looks at target around the half an hour mark. Michael Barrios and Maxilimiano Urruti forced Brian Rowe to make a fine double save to keep this match scoreless. Then Barrios had another go, this time using his head, from inside the area which Rowe stopped with ease.

The second was more of the same for both sides. In the 58th minute, Walker Zimmerman had a glorious chance to make it 1-0. He had a free header off of a set piece but failed to even hit the target. Had Zimmerman found the back of the net there, Dallas could have waltzed their way into the finals.

Extra time craze

It took 101 minutes before the Los Angeles Galaxy opened the in CarsonCalifornia. Giovani dos Santos danced around the penalty box after being slipped through by Gyasi Zardes. Then, dos Santos raced the byline and Chris Seitz came off his line to try and cut out any possible angles. Unfortunately for the Dallas goalkeeper, he clipped the heels of the Mexican international and the referee pointed to the spot right away. Mike Magee stepped to the 12-yard spot and sent Seitz the wrong way, slotting his effort into the bottom right hand corner.

In the second period of extra time, Dallas roared back with two goals of their own late into the night. On the first corner in the 116th minute, Mauro Diaz whipped in a cross towards the middle of the 18-yard-box. Matt Hedges made a great run to get onto the end of the delivery before rooting Brian Rowe to his spot, finding the opposite side of the net.

Then, in the first minute of added time, Dallas found the match-winning goal. Diaz was instrumental once more on the goal sending a fantastic ball into the box following another corner. Victor Ulloa met his head with the cross and bounced it past the Galaxy defenders inside the area, sealing his clubs spot in the finals to boot.
