This past Saturday,  FC Kansas City took on Western New York Flash in Rochester, New York at Rhinos Stadium. Despite all the shots that the Flash made, goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart was able to maintain the score leading Kansas City with a 1-0 victory. With this win, it marked the sixth shoutout of the season for the Blues and also their fourth win of the NWSL season.

Barnhart's relentless battle with the Blues

Barnhart made quite the performance as the Flash had 24 shots in total with 14 being on goal. The 35-year-old goalkeeper had numerous saves and put up a strong fight even when several shots on goal took place within seconds. Midfielders Janice Cayman and Michaela Hahn from the Flash were given yellow cards. Molly Menchel, who made her first appearance with Kansas City was also given a yellow card as well.

The winning goal for the Blues was made by forward Shea Groom in the second half of the match. As the Flash was down 1-0, they continued to keep the shots on Barnhart coming and increased the pressure to create a tying score.

Kansas City losing their defense to the Olympics

The Blues will be missing their defense as national players Heather O'Riley and Becky Sauerbrunn will not be present as they will represent the US in the 2016 Olympics. Defender Desiree Scott will be with Canada and Katie Bowen will be defending for New Zealand.

Before the NWSL teams take a break due to the Olympics in Rio, Kansas City will play one more game against the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois this Saturday, July 30.
