World No 10 and reigning US Open champion Marin Cilic will look to prove himself on clay this year as he starts his campaign for a second career major title.

Cilic won the 2014 US Open with an impressive performance by beating Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori in the semi final and final respectively.  Ever since he came under the coaching of former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, he has improved in leaps and bounds with the major title as an open testimony to it. Since then however, he has failed to show his quality as a major champion with poor performances ever since and a first round exit at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

In the beginning of the 2015 season, he was bothered by injuries and hence withdrew from the  Australian Open . He hasn't quite recovered, which is evident from his dismal performances. Currently Cilic is playing the ATP 250 Tournament in Geneva as an effort to get his form back on track before the coveted French Open tournament commences.

He hasn't made it to the quarterfinal stage much this year and his serve isn't working well either. Big servers usually find it hard to serve it out on clay especially against clay courters and higher ranked players. Cilic will have to rapidly improve his clay court game in order to stand any chance to claim the crown. Right now, his chances seem bleak.
