Today Jo-Wilfred Tsonga seeded 19th took on Sergiy Stakhovsky. Stakhovsky from Ukraine, famously defeated Roger Federer at Wimbledon a few years back and was hoping to do more of the same by hoping to knockout Tsonga. It was a straightforward victory for the Frenchman as he's into the second week of a major once again. He would take the match 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.

Opening set to Tsonga

The Frenchman started the match in great style, getting 74 percent of first serves in and winning 80 percent of those points. The Ukrainian did manage to create a break point chance on the seed's serve, however, he was unable to convert the point. The Frenchman created five opportunities to break, although only able to take one, it proved to be the vital one as the seed took the first set 6-3

Stakhovsky pushes close

The second set was much closer as the seed's first serve percentage dropped down to 59 percent, though still managed to win 73 percent of points when serving. Tsonga created six break point chances on the Ukrainian serve, as the unseeded player was playing well and winning more of the net approaches. Stakhovsky created one break point chance on the Tsonga serve, but was not able to convert it. This came at the most opportune time for the Frenchman, late in the set, as he went on to claim the second set 7-5. Tsonga didn't create many chances to break on the Stakhovsky serve but was efficient enough late in the set to gut it out.

Tsonga moves through

Moving into set three and Tsonga was serving better. His first serve percentage and percentage of points won on his first serve rose to its highest throughout the match with 79 percent and 93 percent respectively. The Ukrainian was not able to make any impact at all on the serve of Tsonga, with no break point chances being earned.

Tsonga on the other hand created three break point chances and converted two of those. The Frenchman broke in the second game to get out to a quick lead and would not look back. Only six net approaches were made by Tsonga in the set, but he won every one of them. This along with the break points won enabled him to move into the fourth round in straight sets, taking the final set 6-3.

Tsonga will now face countryman Benoit Paire for a spot into the final eight in the tournament.
