Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and co-coach Nicolas Escude have announced that they will no longer be working together. The pair first teamed up in October 2013 when Escude and Thierry Ascione joined Team Tsonga as co-coaches.

Titles Few And Far Between

During their tenure, Tsonga won a pair of ATP Tour titles under the tutelage of Escude and Ascione. Tsonga scored a shocking win at the 2014 Rogers Cup when he knocked off Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer all in the same tournament en route to the title. The other title came this past weekend in Metz as the 16th ranked Frenchman won the Moselle Open for the third time in his career by defeating Gilles Simon in three sets. Tsonga also made a Grand Slam quarterfinal and semifinal with Escude in his camp. Both of those came in 2015 with Tsonga making the French Open semifinals and most recently, the US Open quarterfinals.

Escude Could Join French Davis Cup Staff

Both Escude and Tsonga took to Twitter to express their appreciation for working with one another. Escude saying, "After two years spent alongside Jo, my mission stops. Good luck for the future."

Escude also hinted at "exciting new projects" coming up for him in the near future. Some rumors have floated around that he could join Yannick Noah's Davis Cup coaching staff in 2016. Noah was just appointed as the new Davis Cup captain for France last week to replace Arnaud Clement. Others believe that Escude will be teaming with France's next potential tennis phenom, 16-year old Corentin Moutet.

Tsonga was also very respectful in his comments about Escude, saying, "As you know, I ended my collaboration with Nicolas Escudé. After two years of loyal service I wish him good luck for his future adventures and thanks him for his involvement alongside me!"

Comme vous le savez, j'ai mis fin à ma collaboration avec Nicolas Escudé. Après deux ans de bons et loyaux services... 1/2

Tsonga's Future Plans

The announcement of the split could mean that Ascione takes on the position full-time or that Tsonga will be in the market for a new coach in 2016. The Frenchman has never shied away from going through periods without a coach as he did for most of 2012. That came after Tsonga and longtme coach Eric Winogradsky split in 2011 after seven years together. Tsonga would pair with Roger Rasheed late in the 2012 season for the ATP Tour Finals, but that relationship did not last a year. Tsonga went the majority of 2013 without a coach again before teaming up with Escude and Ascione in October. Tsonga is expected back in action next week in Beijing for the China Open.
