Andreas Seppi will be undergoing hip surgery this offseason. This procedure has forced the Italian to pull out of the Champions Tennis League in India where he was a member of the team in Mumbai. Seppi’s last tour-level event was the Paris Masters in Bercy where he was throttled by Roger Federer in the Swiss’ opening match.

Seppi’s Season Highlights

The Italian wants to make sure he is healthy to start the 2016 season which is why he is undergoing the hip surgery now, rather than risking further injury by playing in the CTL which takes place during the offseason. One of Seppi’s highlights of his season took place early this year when he shocked Federer in the third round of the Australian Open with one of his best performances ever as he took out the Swiss maestro in four sets.

The 31-year-old made his first final of the 2015 season in Zagreb but was defeated by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the final. He would make his second final of the year in Halle where he ran into the “King of Halle”, Federer. The Swiss number one took out the Italian in two tight sets to take home yet another Halle title.

Santiago Giraldo To Replace Seppi For The Mumbai Team

Colombian Santiago Giraldo will be Seppi’s replacement for the Mumbai team. The Colombian is ranked 70th in the world. Giraldo had this to say on being able to play for team Mumbai, “I am very happy to be coming to India this year to play in the Champions Tennis League Season Two. I’m also ready and excited to play for Mumbai Tennis Masters with some amazing players like Krajicek and Pennetta. I hope to have a great time there and here"s to Champions Tennis League 2015 - Bigger, Better, Stronger."

Editor's Note: We here at VAVEL USA would like to wish Seppi a speedy recovery following his procedure.
