Lleyton Hewitt, Davis Cup captain for Australia, has picked Nick Kyrgios for the upcoming Davis Cup match against USA.

Confirmation

After eight months out of action in the Davis Cup, Lleyton Hewitt picked Nick Kyrgios for his team via Twitter after a fan asked about it. Australia will face USA in Kooyong on grass from 4-6 March.

Nick's last tie for Australia was in July 2015 against Kazakhstan, a match they would go on to win 3-2 with Sam Groth and Lleyton Hewitt making a comeback after winning the doubles match and the reversed singles. In September, he was not picked to play the semifinals by former Australian captain Wally Masur against Great Britain. His main reason was because he felt tired and it was 'not a great moment for him'.

2016 Season

This year, Nick Kyrgios has decided to play less. Nick started his year playing in the Hopman Cup, where he teamed up alongside Daria Gavrilova as part of Australia's Green Team. In the round robin, Australia Green won 3–0 against Germany, with Kyrgios winning his singles match against Alexander Zverev in three sets, and later partnering Gavrilova for a three-set win in the mixed doubles.

In his second round robin tie against Great Britain, Kyrgios recorded his first ever win against then world number two Andy Murray in straight sets and he also won the doubles with Gavrilova in three sets, to claim a 2–1 win over the British team. He went on to win the Hopman Cup with Gavrilova, defeating Ukraine in the final which earned Kyrgios his first professional title of any category of professional tennis on the world tour.

He then went to Australia with high hopes, but fell in the third round to Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in four sets. He then arrived in Marseille where he won the title defeating Vasek Pospisil, Teymuras Gabashvili, Richard Gasquet, Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic without losing a set and bageling (6-0) Gasquet en-route to the final.

Next up for Nick Kyrgios is the ATP 500 event in Dubai next week, where he will face number 27 seed Martin Klizan, who has just recently won Rotterdam ATP 500
