Two time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka has been named VAVEL USA's WTA Player of the month for March.

In March, Azarenka won her 19th career title in Indian Wells and also set up her win at the Miami Open, which she secured with a win over Svetlana Kuznetsova on April 2nd.

Azarenka Impresses With Indian Wells Title

Azarenka was extremely impressive at the BNP Paribas Open, where she regained the title that she first won in 2012.

The Belarusian started with impressive wins over Zarina Diyas and Zhang Shuai, and also double bagled Magdalena Rybarikova in the quarterfinals. She battled hard to beat Sam Stosur and Karolina Pliskova in three sets on her way to the final.

In the final, she faced the most daunting task in tennis, taking on Serena Williams. Azarenka survived a late comeback from the American to secure a 6-4, 6-4 victory. It was the fourth time she beat Williams, and she also now holds the record for the most victories in finals over the world number one.

Azarenka Sets Up Title Run In Miami

She may have not secured the title in Miami, though her run in Florida meant that Azarenka was unbeaten in March.

She started in Miami with impressive wins over Monica Puig and Magda Linette, and then played one of the matches of the season as she battled past Garbine Muguruza 7-6, 7-6 in a thrilling clash.

The Belarusian also impressed with victories over Johanna Konta and Angelique Kerber, before securing the title over Svetlana Kuznetsova in early April.

Return To The Top 10

Perhaps the most significant moment of March for Azarenka was her return to the top ten in the rankings.

Azarenka rose seven spots to eighth in the rankings after her title in Indian Wells. Her run in Miami pushed her up to 5th in the rankings, and to the top of the Road To Singapore.

There is no doubt that Azarenka had by far the strongest month of any of the WTA players, and it will be interesting to see if she can continue her fine form over the clay court season.
