Ana Ivanovic, the former world number one from Serbia is still young at the age of 28 but chances to win more Grand Slam titles are diminishing.

Ivanovic ended her partnership with British coach Nigel Sears at Wimbledon three years ago following a second round defeat to Eugenie Bouchard, who went on to reach the final a year later.

The Serb has rekindled her partnership with Sears and she will be hoping for a strong challenge at Wimbledon this year.

Notable results to date

Ivanovic has not won a title so far in 2016 and her season has been filled with early exits. The former world number one has a disappointing 15-12 win-loss record and she has reached one semifinal at the inaugural St Petersburg Ladies' Trophy losing to the eventual champion Roberta Vinci.

Her significant results this year are losing to Madison Keys in the third round of the Australian Open but she was a setup and her coach Nigel Sears collapsed during the match which clearly affected the Serb.

At the French Open, Ivanovic reached the semifinals last year for the first time since she won the title in 2008 but it was more misery for the Serb as she lost to Elina Svitolina in the third round, a player she beat in the previous two years.

Third round losses in the Premier Mandatory events to Karolina Pliskova at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and to Timea Bacsinszky at the Miami Open were disappointing for Ivanovic.

A poor clay court season also happened for Ivanovic when she lost to Americans Louisa Chirico in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open and Christina McHale in the second round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.

Grass may be Ivanovic's least successful surface but she has one title under her belt when she won the Aegon Classic in 2014 defeating Barbora Strycova, who went on to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon a few weeks later.

Best grass results leading to Wimbledon

Ivanovic opted to play only one grass court tournament leading into Wimbledon and it was at the inaugural Mallorca Open.

The Serb won her first two matches in straight sets against Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier and thrashed Spain's Sara Sorribes Tomo before falling to the eventual champion Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals.

This week will be rest for Ivanovic as she is not competing at the Aegon International in Eastbourne. Sears and Ivanovic can work together on the practice courts at Wimbledon and can try to figure out a plan for Ivanovic to have a second good half of the season.

Best Wimbledon result

Ivanovic's best result at the third Grand Slam tournament of the year at Wimbledon was a semifinal finish in 2007. As the 6th seed, she defeated Melinda Czink, Meilen Tu (now the wife of Garbine Muguruza's coach Sam Sumyk) and Aravane Rezai in her opening three rounds all in straight sets.

In the fourth round, Ivanovic defeated Russian Nadia Petrova in three sets to reach her first and only Wimbledon quarterfinal to date. Nicole Vaidisova was defeated in three sets and in the semifinals, Ivanovic was defeated by 23rd seed Venus Williams who went on to win her fourth Wimbledon title.

Last year at Wimbledon, Ivanovic lost to Bethanie Mattek-Sands which piled more misery for the Serb at Grand Slams.

Ivanovic's best run at Wimbledon since that 2007 semifinal finish was the fourth round twice in 2009 and 2012. Venus Williams defeated Ivanovic again at Wimbledon in 2009 and Victoria Azarenka thrashed the Serb in 2012.

How Ivanovic's game translates to this surface

Ivanovic is known for having a big forehand which can work effective on the grass but her Achilles heel on this surface is her serve which can be attacked by good returners such as Serena Williams, Azarenka and Petra Kvitova on grass.

Hard courts and clay are Ivanovic's best surface as her serve works slightly better and her movement on the grass is not good.

Ivanovic needs a good performance at Wimbledon to salvage her season. Does Ivanovic have the tools to win her second Grand Slam title?
